I've been trying to use a soft phone to talk with people at work, but the volume the microphone is picking up is very soft. This applies to both the integrated mic (I have to put my mouth on it for any noise to be heard) and a headset I have (have to put my mouth on the wind-screen).

To the best of my knowledge all the microphone's volumes are maxed. When I go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Voice -> Volume (On Voice Recording, the "Microphone" bar is about 3/4 the way up the scale, but I cannot move it. I can only move the "Recording" scale.

Is there some driver I am missing? I'd really like to be able to use a microphone on this computer (for games, softphone, etc.)

    Thanks for any help!

Did you max all of the volumes in the Volume Control (in both Playback and Recording)?
(make sure to go to Properties and check ALL of the options possible to unlock all of the ports for volume control)

When I maxed all of them (a few weren't like "Front", "Center", etc.) nothing changed :(.

Is there a newer sound driver I can try?

Its does not seem to be a driver issue.

The mic volume is called "Pink In" or something like that.

You can check the settings in the Realtek Sound Manager software as well.

I actually use my USB Logitech Headset [originally I used for playing SOCOM on my PS2] on my notebook. The built in mic was not that audible when I got it optimized with volume and noise reduction.
