*****EDIT***** I just opened World of Warcraft on my laptop and the screen had horizontal red lines across it. What should I be doing. I thought I was in the clear but i guess not

*EDIT* I messed with the resolution after the format and reinstalled the drivers. Things are looking good again, but leaves me to wonder if my card is slowly killing itself. I guess it is, aka above edit.

    Sager 5760
    7950 GTX

This morning i woke up and was on my laptop checking my usual websites when i left the room to come back with some vertical lines (red i believe) around my mouse. My screen was frozen and nothing responding. I manually turned off the laptop and turned it back on. Now there are rows of vertical lines, and when i entered the BIOS, most letters had some strange tearing with vertical lines on them as well. After doing some research, people say this is probably because of a graphics card overheat and is probably permanently damaged. I am very nervous at the moment because I do not know how my card could have overheated, specially when it was at the desktop and had my laptop on. I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows with no luck. Do I have to dish out some money to buy the same card?

    Thankyou,
    Paymon

Posting from iPod. Restarted after crash ok. Tried opening world of Warcraft. Systtem crashed with red lines. During startup got thesame issue as beffore with the lines.what do I do

    Nope, atleast 1nce a month.
I usually monitor the core temps (not sure exactly if that relates to the card or what) but there at 45~ idle and about 60~ during gameplay. Really depends tho.

did you monitor the GPU temps as well?

because those temps you are talking about look like CPU temps.

in any case, try to connect your notebook to an external monitor to see if its better.

I hooked it up to a external monitor and I got the same results. :(

What is the next step I should take. I planned on building a desktop over the summer and am trying to save on the money. So I am assuming buying another 7950 gtx would be around 300$ (Assuming that the gfx card is the problem.) To be honest I just want a card at the moment which can run WoW at a decent rate (I love making videos with fraps and whatnot but I guess that can wait until I build my pc). If a new card is the only solution, what do you suggest and if possible do you know anyplace with some good deals. Also, just out of curiosity, there are 2 spots on my notebook where whenever i removed the vents to clean them, there was a bit of a solid liquid material looking like artic silver 5. I can re apply that on those spots correct? I would like to get my lappy back up and running as soon as possible :p

    Thanks

you can get a Nvidia 6800 Go (Clevo module)... its going for around $150.

that card can still game... its main downside is that it only has Shader 2.0

but WoW and any other games before that should play fine.

Every 6800 I have seen does not look like it would fit in a 5760. http://cgi.ebay.com/NVidia-GeForce-Go-6800-Ultra-256MB-Alienware-Clevo_W0QQitemZ330333178334QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item4ce96449de&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1205|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

for example. Although i did find a 7950 gtx and put in a offer for but will have to wait.

it will fit.... just take of the fan/heatsink assembly and you will find that is the same card size as your M570U's.
