Not sure what to do here and figured I would ask the forum before i ran out and bought new headphones or a soundcard. I have looked around for a solution but I haven't found anything useful to help stop the buzzing! The buzzing only happens when using SONY MDR-V6 headphones.

    • I am using the most recent Realtek drivers (5.10.0.5485).
    • The sony mdr-v6 headphones work fine in everything else - no humming when plugged into other computers or random audio devices (ipod)
    • Other headphones don't have the same humming sound. The others all work just fine.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. If you folks don't have any suggestions i will be looking to buy another pair of headphones.

    SOLUTIONS:
    1) Get one of those Y-Jacks and plug your headphones into those - it worked for me...
    2) Buy the SoundBlaster ExpressCard. This the direction I went. I think I found it for $70 somewhere.

Try the original audio driver that came with the computer and see if it still happens.

    One other thing to try:

device manager> disable Realtek High Definition Audio Device.

    See if that works.

If it does, then it's the driver.

I have bothe the MDR-V6and the newer MDR V-600. What I noticed is that the plug of the MDR-V6 is 1 mm shorter.

Go to your local radioshack store or electronic store and get something like this which might have a slightly longer plug:

    http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...hone+jack&kw=headphone+jack&parentPage=search

Just to test it out. The colored plastic ring of the input jack on the 5790 may have added a small bit of depth which may prevent good contact surface with the sony MDR- V6 jack.

great suggestion! i actually have one of those Y-jacks laying around and gave it a shot. only tested it out for a few seconds, but it seems to work. pressing on it and moving it around while plugged in seems to briefly cause the problem again. i will have to test more later today.

Dudes, for some reason, myheadphones just died on my Sager 5791 ! I mean, the little input where you plug either the headphone or another set of speakers seems to have died... I am using realtek hd audio driver(stock) and the sound just died :( the internal speakers work, the headphones don't ... I've googled for 4 hours now and still no sollution..
    HEEEEEEEEEEELP ! :(

no clue on that one, you probably want to:

    1. try multiple sets of headphones.
    2. make sure that you don't have the headphone sound option muted.
    3. call the vendor.

i ordered the creative x-fi express card sound through my sony headphones is better now. i figured the $75 it was worth it - and now i don't need to have my headphones plugged into the front of the laptop.

    Hey guys,
mine does the same thing.. not only with headphones, but i use speakers too and they sound all scratchy and can't hear anything at all!
Even when i can hear perfectly with my ipod earbuds..

i am going to try to reinstall drivers (the newest one 1.79 vs the retail on laptop 1.69)

I don't think that will help . Seems to me that Realtek has some issues with their headhphone jack. Sager told me it's definitely hardware related, and that either the amplifier or the whole plug is fried. I don't know how that could have happened, since I only plug and unplug the exact same cord, the headphone cord. Btw, the headphone work perfectly.
There's 2 way to go around this issue, unless you want to sent the NB back to the retailer.
    1) buy a USB sound card and bypass the problem.
    2) plug the headphone into the microphone jack and in the popup identify it as a headphone instead of a microphone. the sound sucks, but it's better than the internal speaker.

There's always # 3) send it back so they`ll change the mainboard, since the plug is soldered inside it and cannot be changed. Sound idiotic, but a stupid little plug can do that to you, meaning changing the whole barebone!

it might be the built in microphone (fans whirling near it can cause static?).

There is a semi problem when i use the built in one, but when i plug in my USB headset, there is no static at all.

Well, the problem just did not fix . So now I have basically no headphone sound(not totally true, if I plug the headphone into the mic plug and the pops asks me what I`ve plugged in and if I say headphone, I get a low quality sound. Also in the plug on the left of the headphone jack, i get a pretty good quality sound BUT VERY FAINT. Now, would a USB external sound card fix this or should I pay 500$ for shipping the unit back to their makers? :(

may be a stupid question but have you checked all the settings in the advanced area? i had a issue with low or almost no sound through the main speakers when i got my new one and it was just some settings... if you have not already may be worth looking at..

Yeah, I had the same issue with my 2090. I reinstalled drivers tons of times, messed with tons of settings, nothing worked. I ended up just buying the Soundblaster X-Fi notebook expresscard, which gives me much better sound quality than the Realtek audio would even without al the whining and buzzing, so I'm happy.

The headphone jack on my m570ru just failed outright and with no warnings. I now have to bring it in for service. It was working perfectly fine before it decided to die on me. Frustrating to say the least.

^^ i agree. i hope i do not end up with this issue. it seems the 5791 and 2090 recently have been plauged with issues...so far so good for me with the headphone issue. although i have a new keyboard on its way since my esc key gets stuck down when pressed

Was on the phone with XoticPC today asking about prices for shipping and mentioned this issue with one of their sales reps, Amber. Hopefully she passes the word on to the builders and they start looking into this issue.

hmmm, I've just found myself suffering this issue with my np5790 too. Has anyone found a workable solution?

I've also just noticed that when I flip the lid down it no longer turns off the LCD. I was almost sure both these problems were settings issues. I thought maybe I'd been playing with the laptop settings by accident or something.

If anyone has a solution I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance...

    There are2 sollutions :
    1) cheap,like 90 bucks , a USB sound card.
    2) reliable, but not so cheap : send the unit back for fixing (requires change of mobo, way to go sager :D)

I just wanted to resurrect this thread because the same thing just happened to me about an hour ago, and I am extremely frustrated. MY M57RU's headphone jack just died, seemingly without reason. I play a lot of games and this little jack is pretty important for my $250 headset to work..

Has anyone (who has had this happen to them) figured out a fix for this problem, or am I going to have to phone Xoticpc.com and sent my only computer in for an unbearably long time?

its in a kind of vulnerable spot i guess... pressure on it could easily damage it

if your headphone port is completely dead i think thats prob the issue..

the buzzing and stuff is just not having a mic muted.. people have that issue so much its very lawl.. installing voip software etc will change it. or even flash/EI7 etc etc.

My headphone jack on my NP5790 isn't dead. It's more like...half dead! It only does sound on the right speaker/headphone when plugged in.

I checked all my settings (no mono or balance issues), and the speakers/headphones work fine if I plug them in the line-in or microphone jacks and remap them.

This makes me sad. I have some logitech x-540 speakers that can do 5.1 if I use all 3 analog jacks, but since I only have 2 working now, I have to use the 'matrix' surround which isn't nearly as good.

Does the M570RU have very brittle jack sticks compared to other notebooks?

Just wants to be sure, if its anything that one should suspect happening in the future, or if its just bad luck, for thoes experiencing this problem? :)

Thoes experiencing this, try to take a look into the jack stick, at mine there are 2 connection "springs", one that dosent fill up much, the other goes over the middle (One should, if you "draw" a line straight down the middle of the stick, be slightly over the middle of that line, the other should just bump in to the hole of the stick). I could suspect that it is these "springs" gets weak over time, which could lead to a lose connection and in the end, maybe break...

Just an idea, as I havent really been inspecting jack sticks before :p

I will conclude it`s a common issue for the headphone jack to die.
I`m using a USB sound card, and the sound is way better this way.
When on the move,I use the onboard speakers...

    Thats sad news :(

But well, just have to get a USB or Expresscard soundcard if/when it dies :)
