Ok I've been lurking around these forums and I have considered every possible laptop. Seems the only one that meet my req's is the 5790.
The one issue that I'm concerned about is noise since I've seen quite a few ppl having problems with it. I initially had the 7950GT as my option purely for performance but now I'm thinking most of the noise issues could probably originate from the 7950 card. Would that be a true assessment?
Would dropping down to a 8700M GT help alleviate most of it? If so I wouldn't mind the slight drop in performance but how much of a difference will it make noisewise?
-
I got the 5790 with the 7950, It made a lot of noise. But it's worth getting if you actually going to use the card for games and such. If you are worried about the noise go for the 8700GT. It shouldn't be as loud.
-
I dont think mine is noisy at all... I guess its subjective.
-
Yeah, I really wouldn't call it loud at all. People have gone so far as to comment on how quiet it is compared to my last notebook.
-
mine is barely noticable over normal everyday noise even at max fan speed
-
thanks for the input...I feel better about going with the 7950GTX.
I know I'm going to expect some noise from these class of notebooks. It seems the 9260 is supposed to be quieter albeit chunkier/heavier...much more of a DTR. Decisions, decisions >.< -
the bigger the notebook, the better the airflow, the less the fans have to work, the less noise you get
the 8700 consumes less power and doesn't get as hot as the 7950, so you can expect less noise from fans. however, i don't think there are already many notebooks with the 8700M (512 MB), so it's hard to confirm or deny this at the time being -
Unless you are trying to focus on it, I've found that the noise isn't that noticeable. IMO a little fan noise is hardly much of a price to pay for the performance you're getting in return. Besides, most of the situations where I have been pushing the computer hard enough for the fans to be running at max speeds, I've been gaming with headphones on anyway so it doesn't matter.
-
Geesh Lawlz, look what you did!!! Now everybody's worried about the 5790 fan noises.
-
I do not think its that loud at all.
My D900K is louder. -
i have a 9260, and even with max fans + my zalman notebook cooler....it really isnt that loud.
-
-
In my opinion it is very loud... I mean, if you are going to use it for working, just choose something else.
-
it's obvious that these are NOT the kind of notebook that should be used for office work
if you're gaming however, you probably won't hear the noise anyway
and if, after the gaming, you're going to surf the net, you'll probably play some MP3s, so again, you won't hear the noise -
-
I wonder how loud the 5790 is compared to lets say, an Alienware Area51 with one GPU, or maybe even duals.
-
I have a Clevo D870P right now and it's incredibly noisy. Basically it's in a room next to my bedroom yet I have trouble sleeping if I leave it on at night, even with the door closed. How does the m570ru compare?
-
The new Clevo notebooks have large diameter ball bearing fans. Their thermal design has been improved since the old D800 and D900T/K notebooks.
I have been testing it, its quite cool and noise is better than my D900K. -
thanks for answering! ok so I shouldn't hear it nearly as much as my d870p?
-
Truth be told I can tolerate a reasonably loud fan as long as its not a high pitch whiny sound but rather a low but loud hum. I think that would be true for most ppl.
The one thing that would annoy me is when the fan starts up continuously when I'm not doing anything cpu intensive. -
imo, i think that there are better solutions for photo/video editting
you certainly don't need a 7950 for that? -
No, but I need 4GB RAM a very good CPU and a DVI. Many notebooks don't have a DVI and I can't get them the way I want. The Clevo offers a very good configuration but unfortunately is terribly noisy.
-
extra note.... its Dual-Link DVI .... which can handle WQXGA (2560 × 1600)
Only less than 10 notebooks in the world has this ability. -
Does anyone else notice that the noise created by the M570RU resembles a high-pitched version of a chain saw?
Or is it just me? -
) /sigh I dont need a laptop now but would like one for Nov. Everytime someone says the noise isnt too bad I get another saying its loud and high pitch to boot. Argh!
-
-
I believe it's the second fan or the fan for the GPU or something. It has nothing to do with muting sound or muting microphones.
-
This will stay a mistery. There are people like me who say that it is extremly noisy (with high piching sound) and others who say it is totally quite. I know for sure that my notebook was loud and I put also a video to show you I am right. Strangely nobody who acclaims to have a silent one filmed the notebook to show how silent it is (without making tricks, please)...
-
If this notebook was running in an office or a classroom, it would surely drive me insane - either that or I am sensitive to sound.
Sager 5790 noise problems? - 9750 or 8700mGT
