So i just got my 5793 from xotic yesterday and immediately noticed that the fan is producing a vibrating sound

i opened up the back panel to put my finger on the fans but they werent vibrating at all. when i put the panel back on however i find the vibrating starts again

does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? (it only vibrates in fn+3 quiet mode)

which version of the kcb/ec firmware are you running?

this will be shown on the post screen when your laptop boots. If a picture is shown during boot, go into the bios and it'll be on the first page, or you can enable boot time diagnostic screen

    1.00.11Sa

are you sure thats the kbc/ec and not the bios?

The latest BIOS (on clevo's official retailer site) is 1.00.11 and the latest KBC/EC is 1.00.10

    pretty sure.

if it helps, i'm sure its the cpu fan thats making the vibrating noises.

Look for loose/missing screws, particularly on the plastic body parts - the vibration is most likely coming from something loose.

If it only vibrates when the back panel is on, then the back panel may have an inconsistency or be lose/missing screws.

the back panel feels pretty sturdy.

although to be fair whenever the back panel has been off i've been looking at the bottom of the notebook. im not sure how it would sound if i flipped it around.

with the back panel off, is there any more vibrations?
    - if no, then the panels were the cause and needs to be resecured.
    - if yes, then its probably the fan/heatsink.... you need to find one which one is causing the vibrations.

Its easiest to contact your vendor to cross-ship you another fan/heatsink so you wont need to ship in your entire notebook.

Earlier firmwares have caused vibrations ..
So I would definitely get a different firmware, whichever people use and are happy with.

Ah, this brings back memories... :D

It's not a matter of it not being sturdy, it's a matter of some part or parts on the system not being properly screwed down - you could have a steel plate on the bottom there and it'd still vibrate (a little bit) if it wasn't properly attached.

I tried running the laptop without the backpanel on, and the fans actually are quiter without the backpanel. So now I use the laptop without the panel. Gives both better air circulation and quiter laptop.

Lol, I've done that too for a while! But dust settled in and I would have to clean it after a few days. Got bored and put the panel back.

Alright well i finally updated the firmware and nothing has changed.

However theres a chance the volume of this thing is only loud to me.

can anyone give a comparison of what their fans sound like on fn+3 mode?

My 5793 from xotic also produces vibrations. It looks like it comes from a single fan (somewhere below the arrow keys). I bought it only a few days ago so I'm pretty sure my drivers/firmwares are the latest ones.

Did anyone figure out this issue?

I have had my Sager 5793 for almost a year running 24/7 and it has not needed a service call to Sager. I cleaned the fans and inside once during that time and there was very little dust.

The 1680x1050 matte display is very accurate as color accuracy is important to me as I do a lot of graphic work among other things. The fans with the current firmware are now a lot quieter even on fast speed. I OC my T9300 CPU at a conservative 9% and the temps stay around 49C under full load.

Given the fact that this notebook can be upgraded to stay current, the value for the dollar spent, and I am very happy with my decision to go with Sager instead of Dell or Alienware which were the other choices I was looking at.
