Well i really considered buying the 5793 customized through Xotic PC... but i have a question....

I will only really need it when i move to college sometime next year(prolly around Jan-Feb)... can i expect prices to drop by then? Coz i wouldnt mind the wait if there could be some indication of this....

Also , do Sager resellers throw in X-mas discounts and the such? Coz that would be a great time to buy one dont you think?

By then, there'll probably be a whole slew of new systems as well - if you're comfortable with waiting, I'd invest the money for the time being, and let it earn some interest before spending it in the Fall, when you need to make the purchase.

well prices will probably be lowered but they will also have newer technology in them too. Could be looking at 9x00 series by then and montevina processors. Its always better to wait until you absolutely need the notebook to purchase it. That way you get the best bang for your buck at the time.

Well, not always - it's also useful to keep your short-term future needs in mind, and be ready to grab a bargain if/when it appears, as SgtSlaughter appears to be doing - if he's already comfortable with the conclusion that a Sager 5793 is exactly what he's going to be needing in the Fall (and for the next two years or so after that), then he'd be wise to keep his ear to the ground as new systems begin coming out - at some point, the 5793 might begin getting phased out (perhaps in favor of the 5794, with a 9800M :D ), at which point Sgt would be well-advised to grab one of the remaining units before they're all gone, even if that means buying a little earlier than he really intended (I did the same on a smaller scale with a 160GB HDD I found on sale for $70 - I knew I'd be needing it, or something like it, in about 2 months, so I grabbed it when I found it - yes, I've already checked it out in an external enclosure, it works properly).

I would say wait, that is, if you got computerpower that suits your current needs :) As the others stated already, there will propperly be new technology out by then :) Also i think its safe to say that prices for current models will be lower than they are today ;)

There is always going to be new technology on the horizon. Prices may drop some when a new item is released but that is usually only a short term offering while inventory is sold out.

    Always wait!

When's the last time you saw prices go up?

Spend $3000 now.. spend $3000 in 10 months and I can guarantee you the system in 10 months will be better for the same price.

Yeah, but that's pointless. You buy it when you need it.

When the 9261 with 7950GTX or 8700M went to the 9262 with 8800M.

Well its not the decision really coz even though im a gamer, im not that hardcore and really a system that can support DX10 with a 8800GTX,4gb ram,2.5C2D penryn will keep me happy for quite a while even if newer technology comes out...It meets my need and thats important :)

Hence the question of when to buy it... yea my main quest would now be to make sure that i am able to grab one the moment i find that they are running out of stock...

Hey Justin, does Xotic PC have any way to let consumers know how long they are gonna be offering a particular system?
I mean like, Novatech lets consumers know on their site how many units of each system they have in stock at that moment....

From what I know of the resellers don't usually get the units. Most of the time they're sent from Sager to you.

I remember Justin Woitte, the XoticPC sales rep (NOT Justin Nolte, the owner, here) told me that it's customized in their California [somewhere] and then it's shipped through XoticPC..

Any due date for that ? :p

Not quite. Sager does that. The Sager resellers usually don't see the units.

    ridiculous.

why not wait 10 more months after that? and 10 more months after that? I guarantee you if you wait 10 years to buy a laptop, you will have an AMAZING machine for the same price. haha

buy it when you need it, is right.

Complete agree with the above... you'll spend your whole life waiting and before you know it you'll be dead... :D how long do you want to wait? There's always something new around the corner, can people not understand this?
