I'm getting very close to buying my first laptop. I just bought an Xbox Elite so most likely I will not do any gaming with this laptop. I would prefer a 17 inch notebook that I can customized and get with no bloat-ware. Also this laptop will be used mainly in the house. Considering these needs the Sager 5793 seems like the best choice. Since I have no plans to game I was thinking on buying it with the Nvidia 8700GT. Or would I be better off spending a little more and buying with the 8800GTX???

Also I read on this forum about people having video driver issues. I plan to buy my Sager with XP Pro. Will I enconter any driver issues with any of these cards with XP Pro???
    Thanks.

If you are not going to game with it there is no reason to spend the money to upgrade to the 8800M GTX.

You should not have any driver issues with XP Pro.

One other model you might want to consider is the PowerPro I 17:7

Thanks Donald. The 9262 is a little more expensive, heavy, and bulky. That's why I ruled it out. I figured the 5793 would the better choice of the 2. So I guess buying this laptop with the 8800GTX will not make it any more future proof for me???

Even though you want customizibility I think if you are not going to game on it at all your better off buying a slimmer, less noisy and maybe less expensive system.. like the hp DV series.

Yeah you're right that's not the 9262. Never the less if it's MSI I would rather stick with a Clevo/Sager. The HP's are nice but too much bloatware and if the 9700 had at least an 8600GT card I would consider it.

Don't they come preinstalled with Norton??? Also not a 17' notebook and I'm not wild about the G2 series.

Then I say go for the NP5793 with the 8700M.

What is the rest of the configuration you are considering?

Why do you need an 8600GT if you are not gaming?

i think in a 17" then with a 8700 you have 2 great choices. the clevo 570ru or maybe the toshiba x205 series. they are also very nice systems and can be found pretty cheap.. and while imo not built as well as either the toshiba x205 or the clevo maybe the gateway from best buy with the 880gts would be worth considering..if you are spending that much on the 570ru (5793) the gateway is less $$ and you get the 8800gts..

    1680X1050 display
    T9300 2.5ghz
320BG 5400 RPM drive since I've read this drive is just as fast as the smaller 7200rpms drive.

The only other this that confuses me is the sound card. I probably will not connect it to any external speakers. So i'm thinking it makes no sense to buy Soundblaster Live or FX.

    Perfect configuration!

You won't need an external audio card...it already comes with the best there is built in.

the 320 hdd does perform as well as the 7200 rpm ones due to the density on the driver.. and even in some tests it performed better (the wd and samsung ones the toshiba didnt fare so well, the wd was the fastest 320gb so far last toms hardware test)

For the same the reason as my car. My car stock does 0-60 in 5.5 secs and I don't race. It's nice to have in case you need it. And I do use the speed when annoying people tailgate me on the hwy. :D

The thing is that my unit is available now, you know there's no dead pixels,no issues whatsoever so it's pretty much plug and play.
And the 7950GTX is better than the 8700M GT :p
And it's upgradeable for more power in the future...etc etc.

He didn't have any issues with it and it's in perfect condition and like he said the 7950GTX is better than the 8700M GT.

The 5793 just has the support for Extreme Cpus, mine is a 5791(which doesn't have it.)
    I'm looking at about 1300$ shipped,but that's something I'm rather flexible at.
Anyway,it would not be good for you , as I said, it's got an Xotic/Sager warranty, whereas you need a UK one.
Anybody from the US would make good use of it, but since you're not from the US, I can't advice you to get it :)

Anyway, the 579x is an awesome machine, anybody getting it would love it's power and build quality,it's just amazing...

I actually have a friend that ordered virtually the same setup. The guy saw that I had just bought a 5793 after doing a month or two of research, didn't want to spend over 2000 and thus decided that if I had bought one it'd be good enough for him and went with one with a 8700

I think the 5793 has a completely new cooling system as well and thus the 5793 is less prone to crashes/hardware heat issues. I think a lot of people had issues with the 5791 certainly not as much as the 5793.

Hardware issues? I guess you gotta be kidding me.
5791 is virtually IDENTICAL to the 5793,save for revised cooling to FULLY support the Xtreme CPUs.
Kaltmond has the 5790/1 and he has an extreme CPU and WORKS perfectly.
There are no hardware / heat related issues, as all the RU users will tell you, the thing is among the coolest laptops in the world,in the gaming section.
(save for the audio jack here and there-which includes all 579x series, even the 93 one :D)

Well yes I was referring solely to the new cooling system thats probably much more effective than the 5791.

The ONLY difference in the cooling system is the CPU heatsink is bigger to dissipate more heat. The x9000 will run fine on the stock 5791/2 heatsink tho.

The improved HS was designed for the x7800/x7900 chips with highr tdp's and then the penryns came out with better performance, lower price and lower tdp's, so the HS improvements weren't really needed in the end anyway.

It's still nice to have though...

A lot of people also like the fact that it has a better cooling system.
