Simply put. I DJ and I am getting a Sager 5796. Does the 5796 have a full sized firewire port? As in a 6 pin. I need it to hook up my Presonus Firebox

Unfortuneately no. The only current laptop with a powered (6pin) firewire port belongs to Apple.
It's just got the 4pin.
I wish that ODM's like Clevo would start incorporating a 6pin into their designs. -
I have no issues using 4-pin firewire... all of my device are all ac-powered anyways.

yeah. Jaycee musicians are always out of luck. But if you do need that connection you can always get one of those express cards.
-
I connect my M-Audio FW1814 (one of the best pro-audio sound cards) to my notebook fine.

yeah. but if he needs that powered connection than what else can he do? and yes your right. You do have a nice card!
-
Firewire is usually a bit better with the latency. And the firebox WILL work I will just need to power it via AC
-
I have two M-Audio cards:
- Transit (USB-powered portable model)
- FW1814 (AC powered, using firewire)
both work fine with my system. -
I would like to see the 6pin for use with an interface like the Motu Traveler, so I wouldn't be tethered to anything. I currently use the Echo Audiofire 12 but it is far from portable.

well if you can power it over ac than you have no problem. just annoying that it has to be powered ac but really if your doing music its not like your going to be on the bus.
-
the M-Audio Transit is extremely portable and works quite well when I am on the go.... and its USB-powered which is quite nice.

there is always this too: http://sewelldirect.com/Dual-Port-1394b-FireWire-800-ExpressCard.asp

Yeah, its ok to hook up to ac when I'm doing live recording and stuff, but sometimes I like to do some headphone mixing at school in between classes and stuff, which I can do with onboard sound, but It would be nice to use a quality interface to get all the detail of the mix.
Oh well, its not worth paying the Apple price for, so I guess ac will have to work for now.

oh okay. didn't know that.
-
Easy to do they don't make it clear in their ad.
-
I have a FP 10 Firewire interface. Would an express card be the best course of action for that?
-
Expresscard is best if you want to use a 6-pin firewire.
-
I had a couple of FP's in the past as well, they will work fine with the expresscard, but they also work the same with the onboard 4pin.
Some people will tell you that the expresscard will be better if it is based off of a Texas Instruments chipset, which may be true, but I never had any problems with my onboard 4pin and my Firepod. Plus the FP can't be bus powered anyway, so their is no advantage in using a 6pin adapter.
