which one should i get ?
thanks
-
My money is on the Sager mate.
-
m17x will crash 5797 in terms of performance.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I will stick with Sager considering after market support and quality.
-
The m17 with dual 3870s is the better option for performance. I assume you'll upgrade the RAM in that one yourself?
-
Are you guys serios?
That m17 has 2 video cards...
The 5797 stands absolutely NO chance against it..
Not too mention that the m17 has a killer look...
I loved my 5791, but when it was time to move on, I did.
Get the best deal! -
Alienware M17
-
Price/performance: Sager
If you got over $4000 to burn for that extreme quad-core, go for the Alienware. -
Now my opinion; the M17 does beat out the 5797, but at +$1000 more, I don't think you're getting the performance increase that justifies the higher price. A set of cards that don't even beat dual 8800s just aren't worth that much money in my eyes.
Plus, dual GTX + a desktop quad can be had in the 9262 for less than even the 5797, and it spanks both of those setups easily.
The mobile Quad-Cores are the new hotness, but they aren't worth the cost yet. -
-
-
Apples and oranges. I'd take the Sager just because of the support and community. In fact, if you are going to shell out that much for the Alienware just get the 9262 from Sager or the OCZ White Book from a reputable reseller.
-
I like single GPU systems, so I'd get the 5797, then drop an HD 4850 in when they come out. Quad plus that GPU is all you'll need for a couple years.

I'd say the 3870 works in the M860TU because when the M860TU was first introduced it was actually offered with the 3870. Then, for some reason (probably software-related?) Clevo decided to pull the support for the ATI card and it never saw the light of day.
The 5797 was never intended to have an ATI card whatsoever, so my money is on the belief that it won't be supported. However, I would love to be proved wrong -
alienware m17 by a long shot... sager build quality is not all its cracked up to be... honestly.
ALSO GET A QUAD for GTA4+ newer games... i think its officaly Time to only get quads time.. (if u can afford it) -
-
-
Wait for the OCZ Whitebook with the 48xx GPU.
-
Okay, I had to make this same decision, and originally ordered the M17. After much runaround and half truths from Alienware, I cancelled the order and placed an order for the 5797. So far from Sager I have recieved excellent customer service and a laptop that can run everything I've thrown at it, all on a duocore processor setup that allows me up to 2 hours of battery life.
This is just my opinion, but If I'm spendng that kind of money I would rather have a little less powerful laptop from a company I can trust, than the big dog on the block that I'm unsure of. My experiences with Alienware during my order made me uncertain that I can trust them. I've been involved with computers for 25 years, and I support them every day for my job. ALL manufacturers have problems occasionally, and I want to know that I can count on mine if I do have a problem.
Just my two cents based on my ordering experiences with both companies. -

Forget the M17 then. Why not buy an OCZ Whitebook instead?
-
Do I read this right? For that price you can get a maxed 9262 and kick that alienware with its "blue lights" right in its little stink purse! Gimmicky garbage if you ask me. -
just get an OCZ whitebook its much cheaper and a great bang for the buck.... although as a fan of the Np579# series. I prefered the nvidia graphic card over the ATI card, isnt nvidia graphic card better for gaming??
and also isnt the 9800m GTX superior to the DUAL AtI 3870?? -
You guys know that you can get the OCZ whitebook , right? It doesnt necessarily need to be the m17...
-
seriously get the ocz whitebook and build it. its SO MUCH CHEAPER.. almost half what alienware charges if you look for deals..btw make a few more posts so you can recieve pm's...sager is a great company but ocz will for sure win that battle.. they both have very good build quality prob the sager is a bit better.. but its not a huge difference at all

ahh i see, thanks for the correct information... i was just confused lolz

Honestly, I'd go with the Sager for several reasons. First, it's a Sager, and I've had nothing but good experiences with mine. It's built solidly, and can take on any game on the market, and I only have a 9800m GT. Second, not many games take full advantage of quad core processors and dual video cards, so that's all in excess. Really, you'd be better off spending less on the Sager and having more money saved up when you want to upgrade to a new laptop.
But that's just my opinion -
I`ll have to say it again, go with the best offer...
-
Here is a link to compare GPU's. I think the synthetic scores are a little on the low side since my 7950M GTX's in SLI get 8800 3dmark06.

I love my m9750 (same chassis as the M17) it's a rock solid chassis that I've toted all through the "war zone" in the middle east for almost two years and I haven't had a single hardware failure.
However, A.W. has by far the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with. Adding a second GPU resulted in them sending me the wrong GPU and three times they sent me the wrong GPU fan/heatsink. They also sent a fourth "wrong" GPU to the wrong address in another state. Many hours onthe phone and almost 3 months later, I was able to use my notebook again.
Needless to say I wouldn't buy from them again, but It's looking like my next purchase will be an OCZ Whitebook.
Unless you're looking for bragging rights, getting the absolute fastest isn't necessary. My antiquated M9750 runs all of the previously mentioned games very well.
I would take money from the top tier components and use it to get two OCZ Apex or two OCZ Vertex SSD's in raid0. SSD's in raid makes even a new notebook feel much better.

If it were me I'd wait for the 4870's and up the ante on the processor. I've been very happy with my purchases of OCZ products and their customer support is top notch, not to mention their great forums.
After having to deal with A.W. I now know that customer support and product knowledge is everything. IMHO
Rob41 -
Wait for the 4870s for the M17 or Whitebook Version and also look at the Clevo M98 18.4" notebook debuting this week at Cebit.
-
if you can even find a ocz 17" now. they are eol and are almost non existant anymore
-
Tis because they were pulled from the market.
For all of you who told everyone to buy one, and then for the OCZ to be pulled... care to explain? I mean, did flextronics just ditch the entire notebook?
For the record, I am a 5797 owner who bought the laptop because of the proven track record of Clevo, Sager, and XoticPC, emphasis on proven, not bleeding edge... that's just a fringe benefit. -
Um, I just looked at new egg and looked at two different OCZ models with the 17" screen and 3870's in crossfire. They have a total of 60!
OCZ OCZDIY17A2DM88XTX2 Intel PM45 Black DIY Gaming 17" Screen Notebook 53 of these.
OCZ OCZDIY17A2-BM88XTX2 Intel PM45 Black DIY Gaming 17" Screen Barebone Notebook w/ Blue-ray DVD 7 of these.
