    Nice one... ;)

Mine starts runing when the GPU hits 47ºC, then stops at 43ºC, over and over...

    Like this:
    (clocks on 2D mode)

On Fn + 3 mode the GPU fan never stops. GPU IDLEs at about 35ºC...

    Runing BIOS 1.00.02
    8700M GT

BTW here is a review of that panel(LPL0B0A): http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3070&p=5

Good video, thanks for taking the time to do it and put it up for the rest of us.

That fan is a bit obnoxious - and very loud at the high setting; in ordinary use (i.e., not gaming or massive number-crunching), how often does it kick in on high setting?

    Non gaming - NEVER.
But it does ramp up and down as shown in the riva tuner monitor chart...come to think of it, it`s not loud, but the powering on and off disturbs me a lot...
The medium fan, as I said ever since its release is the best thing ever devised for this laptop`s fans...too bad it`s not a constant run :) YET...

The first bit's good to know; as for the constant up-down/up-down, I agree with you completely, that would drive me bonkers in no time flat. I used to have an old junker in college that would do that at idle (rev up, then down, then up, then down) and I spent an ungodly amount of money trying to fix it (then it went and solved the problem by falling apart - the cam-arm on the oil-pump seized up, and the next time the cam-shaft came around to hit it, it blew out the side of the block; I literally had engine bits dripping off the undercarriage  ).

Well, you saw the movie...I know how the screen looks, I game and watch movies on it,and it`s by far the best screen I had so far.So I don`t care what any review wants to say.
Chaz tested the same LG panel while reviewing a sager 5791 , I think and he was also most impressed. So whatever Anandtech might say, this screen is SUPERB.

Apparently not. The latest firmware, 15 feb sets medium mode louder than auto mode. Go figure, they can`t set the damn thing to RUN ALL THE TIME AT 30%.

Reviewers can also get a bad LCD (bad batches), so this is why they might say that. Also, they have access to calibration tools.

That is so noisy .. i think im going to have to go with the m15x... a shame because i do like orange ^_^.

that noise makes it pritty much non usable in study/lecture/quite areas :(

reason why they wont release 30% speed constant is because of the potential of more returns of dead hardware which is stupid beacuse on desktops the same GPU runs hotter than that fine.

Take into consideration that Eleron also has the 5791 which does not have the new cooling as on the 5793. I personally use the 5793 and don't find the fan noise disruptive at all.

Let's make things clear. This laptop is awesome. And I have every bit of reason to believe that sager will pull this through. And then I`ll post a video about the update , but until then I have to insist upon it until the issue will be fixed... :(

Can the new cooling option be used in the 5791, or was the chassis/case reworked?

Justin, just to get this straight, could you compare temps between the 5791 and the new 5793 casing? I supose it might improve noise problems, hopefully, but how much would it help the regular CPUs?(if I have say the T7500 in my `91, would the temps be lower in a `93 casing? (and noise also?)

I'm looking to buy a laptop for home use mainly. Although I will use it for games occasionally. The majority of the time it will be used for surfing, email, and photo editing. I read the review which said the laptop can become quite loud when your playing games. But for other uses besides games how's the noise level??? I don't want to hear my wife complain about the fan noise when she uses it for surfing.
    Thanks.

I would like to know as well. I would be using it as my main machine but I don't game. I just want a quality notebook that can last me a while and has a terrific screen. This seems like such a perfect laptop, minus the noise reports. Hopefully that has been fixed so people like you and me can enjoy it while watching TV or whatever.

I don't think this is a problem that needs to be fixed. When you put a lot of stress on a PC, laptop or desktop, they make noise. I just want to make sure it will be quiet when in use for surfing and other PC activities.

    I gues it's somewhat of a problem.

If you just need it for surfing, email, photo editing, then you probably don't want this laptop. It's designed to perform well in games, and if you're not a gamer you can get a more multimedia-oriented laptop with a quieter fan (not that this one is too loud, in my opinion).

However, I will say that I am exceedingly impressed by the build quality. Everything feels very solid and the screen is beautiful and bright. Maybe a smaller Sager notebook would provide a good price/performance ratio?

Edit: When you say "games occasionally" it does kind of matter which games. If you want to play Crysis occasionally, then you should get this laptop :)

And yes, people do complain that the GPU fan spins up too frequently when all they're doing is using regular desktop applications. But again, it doesn't bother me, and it's not that loud.

I'd go with that, some AV software can be real skittish about certain kinds of innocuous software because it has a passing resemblance to a viral signature. I once tried to download a zipped compiler package that went fine right up until the very last few kilobytes, at which point the AV would go haywire - as far as I could tell, the trigger was because the package contained a file that had been compressed using a packer that was favored by hackers.

When I play games now I used my PS2 and I'm getting ready to buy an XBOX 360. I don't want to be limited by PC games if later on I want to start playing them. That's why I was looking at this laptop. I want a laptop that will perform great with games and other other PC uses.
I also do a lot of photo editing with Lightroom.

people saying the fan noise jumps to that of a orignal Xbox 360 DVD drive has really put me off a 8800 2.8 extream 5973 ... can i get conformation that under max load its not that loud because i infact own a first batch 360 (free gift from a Microsoft games employee) and lets just say that when the dvd is spinning its so loud that i eather ...

    A) want to get a new amp to play audio louder than it and

    B) want to put my 360 in a microwave to get the 3year warranty because it screams like a baby i wish not to ever conceive.

i would record my 360 1st first batch audio to compare but i dont want to damage my microphone ITS THAT LOUD!

if the np5973 is like that thenit looks like importing a gateway or the quite little m15x...but alienware customers tend to lie regardless of issues and say there 4grand laptop is perfect nd void of dramatic flaws like to power button not working after a hour of gaming :D. along with the other touch buttons simply not responding at all after the laptop gets hot.

I`m uploading the new video as we speak.
The good part about this firmware is that it actually keeps the fan ON at MEDIUM SPEED all the time.
The downside is that they STAY at med speed all the time, even in gaming. When just browsing my max CPU temps were below 30C and the GPU stayed at a firm 36-37C.Will provide link as soon as it`s uploaded...
But this firmware leads me to believe that Sager and Clevo are getting very close to getting the needed perfect firmware :D

Eleron911, you did a great job with these two videos :)

As this seems to be the new official thread for M57xRU fan noise problem, I switch to this one :D

I get the same results as yours : low and constant noise while browsing, GPU stays at 45° and CPU at 30° while doing light work.

The fact that I'm running Vista explains I think my temps are a little bit higher than yours.

I think too, they just need to set back fan speed increasing for high temps in FN+3 mode as it was in 07Sb, without changing anything else, and we would have a great 07Sg firmware ;)

Yea, I forgot to mention, CPU was at 25-27 C :D

I have to warn you as I did on youtube, when gaming, Switch TO AUTO, because the fans will not do it themselves and you`ll get big temps that way...

Yep I said a word about that on the other thread...

I checked it today and after 20mn gaming in Fn+3 mode I got both my GPU and CPU temps to 70°C

My reseller told me about it that there is no risk for CPU and GPU themselves, but there could be a long term issue with other components on the video board that do not like heat.

And I only have a 8700, wonder how high the temps can go with a 8800GTX in Fn+3 mode while playing Crysis...

Again I would like to have some feedback from Clevo/Sager on that point.
