    Hi,

So just today my laptop started making this weird fan noise like it's grinding against something. I opened my laptop thinking it might be dust buildup and I cleaned it out with compressed air and what not. After that the noise still persists. I narrowed it down to the right side fan. I observed it in action to see if it was grinding against something but it wasn't. I think it might be the cover that goes on top of the fan. What can I do? Get a replacement from somewhere? I don't have warranty and I bought this from Malibal 2 years ago.

I have added pictures along to show the fan and the cover. .

The fan is probably going out just from normal wear and tear, possibly a ball bearing problem. Replacing it is your best bet, get ahold of Malibal and see if they can get you a replacement.

Would it be wise to keep using the laptop for now? The grinding noise doesn't seem to be affecting the laptop negatviley but the noise is just eery. Cause this is the only computer I have to use for school work.

If would be fine if its not affecting temps. If you hear the noise stop you'll want to check the fan right away to see if it has totally failed. Temps will go up if that happens but the computer should have a thermal protection which instantly shuts the computer off if the GPU gets too hot, thats usually around 104C.

Okay, Thank you very much for your help! I have speed fan running and the temps are normal so I will use it until Malibal gets back to me about a replacement fan! Thanks again.

It could be the bearing. You can try using a high grade lubricant, such as what's used for bicycles or rifles. WD-40 will work, but it's not as recommended and won't be a long term fix (if it fixes anything).

This is assuming the bearing is the problem at all. You may be looking at needing to replace the fan.
