    I thought i had comcast HSI issues, but it's not that. Another computer runs speedtest at 90Mbps, but my Sager is between 7 and 26.

    Windows 7

    Safe mode, ethernet, wifi: all the same slow speedtest results and obvious slowness opening webpages from any site. Tried turning off virus/firewall temporarily (same app Ive used for years without any issues--Norton 360). no joy.

    I reinstalled the Centrino driver also. no joy on speed issue.

    I tried repairing network using netsh commands, deleted a number of apps installed in the last few months. the fact this issue is present when connected directly to the modem via ethernet makes me afraid I'm going to have to reinstall windows but that's a very, very unappealing idea due to the number of large apps/data installed such as adobe lightroom and flightsimulator. Reinstalling windows is my LAST resort.

    Any ideas how I can pin down what's the cause?

    I just temporarily reinstalled the original hard drive (I normally use an SSD) that came with the Sager and internet speeds are normal.

    So, it's NOT a hardware issue. I hope someone can point me to a solution OR to site that can help me figure out how to fix my win 7 installation short of reinstalling it. I've been doing lots of Googling for slow connections on one PC as opposed to slow internet on all PC's in one's home or office. No tips from the results I've looked at have helped.

    Can you tell your provider max. speed you purchase. Can you your box max speed support. And if your box use MIMO technology and if you wifi card support this. And if u use simultaneously two or more devices on wireless connection with same box(i suppose you have one box for your ISP). And then maybe check your neighbor channel usage (in 2.4 and 5Ghz specter). But first try set up your pc in high performance with adapter ac/dc plugged in.

    Ok you tried even wired. Run windows in safe mode with network drivers (you did tis one)? And check speed (with some other site that speed test because maybe flash plugin will not work). And compare to your other pc with same site (hope they sue same routes).

    90Bbps

    the sager ran at 90 consistently for about a year. i just installed the old HDD and speeds are normal. with SSD, which USED TO PROVIDE FAST internet speeds, the sager has slow internet. something wonky going on with SOFTWARE rather than hardware, or with comcast HSI. Dont want to reload windows unless NO OTHER OPTION;

    Check the solution in safe mode. You tried it? SSD will not provide you fast internet at your 90Mbps. Just check your ssd speed and health with crystal disk info/crystal disk mark.
    Btw if you have slow speed in safe more with network drivers. How could software problem? The same way with your wireless and wired driver?
    P.S. Your ssd speed can degrade very fast if it almost full and never made trim/garbage collection(but do not think this is an issue).

    Which browser were you using and which did you switch to? It may help others down the road.

    i always use firefox as the primary browser and have for many years. this was the first time in my memory that the browser was the cause of slow download speeds. I had THOUGHT that this morning, during initial testing of my Sager's download speeds that I had switched to Chrome just to be sure it wasn't FF, but I guess I didn't, so wasted a couple more hours trying different things to fix the slowdown. sigh. anyway, I deleted the Mozilla/Firefox folder, deleted FF and reinstalled it. All 3 browsers speeds are now fine, thank god. I'm on line too much to be hampered by 6Mbps speeds.

    I'll be sure to watch out for problematic browser extensions, if speeds drop again.
