First time poster, love the community!

Anyone know of the 8170 actual availability? I called several resellers and they were vague with 'end of Jan' being a pat response but couldn't confirm when I will actually receive. I am heading out on a 4 month, 10+ country business trip hence 'must' have by Feb 9. I would hate to settle for Asus/XPS based on availability. I am happy to pay for expedited shipping.

    Look forward to any assistance!

Last update stated the "End of January" is now "Beginning of Feb" so you might be cutting it a bit short on time. A lot of us have pre-ordered it (myself included) so soon as it is announced there will be info on it.

Any resellers care to comment on stock and availability. Looking for insight and any options you may have. Thanks!

Thats pretty much how we are seeing it from Clevo and Sager, First week of Feburary for release to the resellers for the next shipment. Thats the best information we have right now. Also remember that orders are processed in the order they are recieved.

You could also get an alienware m17x r2 on Dell's Outlet (filter by r2). There's a bunch available. The m17x r2 has a better screen and keyboard than the 8170, but the trade off is obviously the older tech (cpu/gpu/no usb 3.0/poor 4k write speeds with ssds). It's still a powerful laptop by today's standards if you get a dual gpu solution. Since you're going to many countries, i'm guessing the shipping and repair process might be easier if you went Dell.

Some will be shipped each week starting this coming week. However the shipping Que is building up and the quantities that are coming in from Clevo is limited each week. Yes the first part of February is the best estimate for new orders of the 8170... :)

I can also confirm it's pretty much first ordered first served. But keep in mind that making the right choice on which laptop you want is priority number 1. Any purchase should be made with utmost care, especially high end laptops.

Good advice. You nailed it, I am trying to buy into current technology hence my focus on the Clevo. Agree on the shipping/repair but the modern version of AW = 17x r3 and the 460 gpu won't cut it for me.

Thanks for the updates. I am not trying to cut the line and looking for a reseller who may have more stock than pre-orders. If so, I am in!

    Thanks -
