Has anyone tried to install windows xp 32/64 bit on the sager 8662? Do you lose any thing, do the button not work, sound card issues, anything? Because i do a lot of gaming and losing any performance loss due to vista or win7 is unacceptable in my books!
    -Cheers.

Sager has drivers available for Windows XP so I would assume that everything works fine - plus, most resellers have XP as an option when purchasing.

If you are going to go with Windows Xp, make sure that you get the 64-bit edition. The 32-bit can only see a max of 3GB of RAM. I made that mistake when I got my NP5797 with Windows Xp. It only shipped with the 32-bit edition of pro. Nice though.

Also, with that model of laptop, there isn't a noticeable amount of performance decrease with Vista. They've finally made it stable, and now they are releasing another... :(

Since Vista has DirectX 10, I would go with it, you can always turn off UAC (AKA "The main irritating thing about Vista") and be able to get the most out of the GTX 260M graphics on games that supports dx10!

Windows XP shouldn't be a problem. I ordered my Np8662 with Windows XP SP3 preinstalled with 3GB of DDR3 RAM.

Since XP doesn't take up that much resources I can't see the 3GB of RAM being a problem.

Some order their NP8662 with Vista 64 and 4GB of RAM but when you consider that Vista is using much more RAM than XP, do you really think that the extra stick of RAM will even be a benefit I wonder.

With NBR Vista Tweaking Tips, I was able to lower Vista RAM hunger to XP levels - 450-500MB RAM.

I know XP can be as low as 200-300 MB(my macbook in BootCamp XP Pro takes 268MB, no tweaking) even lower, with tweaking.

I have heard people on these forums suggest staying away from XP 64 and instead going for Vista 64. Anyone using XP 64 on any of the Sagers with no issues? Any reasons to avoid XP 64?

Lack of 64-bit drivers. I have not tried XP 64-bit, so I can't tell you if it matters or not.
