    Hi lads,

I just got a new 8662 ;) and have been running a few games with HW monitor on constantly to check these things. Playing most fallout 3 and l4d.

Anyway, I am concerned about my temps a tad, mostly the CPU

I have HWMonitor to start with the computer so here are the temps, from computer start and including 2-3 hours of Fallout 3

    Min Max
    Core #0 40 75
    Core #1 40 68

    GPU Core 49 81

    HDD 48 52

the highest I saw my cpu temp was 78 after just a little bit of l4d, its brand new so I highly doubt the fan area is dirty. Should I be concerned about these temps and if so how do I decrease the temp?

    Thanks!!

    those temps are fine really.

I would not worry about it.

refer to the NBR Cooling Central for my list of danger and threshold temps.

Thanks Gophn, I saw that earlier but obviously I stopped reading and became worried at danger temps!!

Here have some more rep :)

When you consider how much those games you are playing push the CPU/ GPU and all of the different AI calculations and stress the CPU is under during play, I am not sure what you expected. Those temps are fine.

EDIT: Maybe not so fine for just a P9600.

I would say those are rather high temps for a P CPU. I would advice you to reapply the thermal paste.

I know I've got a larger laptop, but my P9600 runs quite cool in comparison. I don't think I've ever seen higher than 46C playing crysis off my cooler...

I have a friend with a M860TU and a P inside and it runs pretty cool at 20-30C. So those temps are "off the scale" :) in my opinion.

Those Temps for a P processor are a bit high. Imagine when the laptop starts to accumulate dust how much higher they would get. Try downclocking with Rmclock and see what happens. Also, see if reapplying the thermal paste helps as well.

I unpacked this laptop from the box like 2 days ago, I highly doubt it is dust.
About the Thermal Paste, is it common? do you think I can buy it from the local computer shop or is it a speciality good?

I hate to annoy you guys with this again. I have the opportunity to go buy this Artic Silver 5 thermal compound in a shop i found in Hungary.

    Now for my stupidness again:
This is the stuff I think I should buy: http://209.85.129.132/translate_c?h...O&sa=G&usg=ALkJrhikuWqzvJrQqlzykUmB_y5HzrGfCw

Is that the exact stuff I should get?

Also is there a linky somewhere for a very detailed and pictured guide to applying it properly, I am terrified of this kind of stuff :p

Any love and help will be greeted with cookiess ;)

Yeah, that looks like AS5. It's a good compound, not the best but definitely good.

You can go and search up on Arctic Silver's website for guides on how to apply it.

Thanks Blacky, I know it was a stupid question but getting confirmation calms my nerves :)
I will let you guys know how it goes. They open in 45 minutes at which point I will call them to see if there is any available before wasting my trip :p

It's probably too late now anyway, but 12g is way overkill, just get the 3.5g tube.

    Yeap, that or OCZ Freez.

Altough, I've read some reviews that say that MX-2 behaves very close to the AS5 after the normal settling period or whatever the term is.

    I am using AS5 because it's cheaper :D.

I just thought I would inform you guys.
I went and bought some Arctic Silver 5 paste and went to this guy today who applied it for me.

The CPU had very little paste applied which he r
eapplied, the GPU had a decent amount but from what looked like another substance. Anyway, he replaced both and so far the results are:

CPU at idle are 10C lower and when under full load *earlier tonight only 5C cooler but later on is now about 8C cooler*
GPU at idle is 5C lower and under load is about 2-3C cooler.

Please keep in mind: that I did this testing the same day it was applied and I understand that it can take 50-200 hours for the paste to propery set so I expect slightly better results but not noticably but I will let you guys know :)
