Is there anywhere in the San Francisco Bay area who carries these and allows in store pick-up?

I don't know of any physical retail store in the US. The closest people with an online presence to SF that I'm aware of would be Malibal, in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately Sager/Clevo is really a boutique brand, you won't find them in any major retail chains.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Like most other custom brand notebooks... especially the high-end ones...

it is extremely rare to find a retail store to carry them.

There are many vendors in California.. so you can contact them to see if they will let your come by and check it out or pick it up.

I believe AGear Notebooks is located in Fremont.... which is in the Bay Area.

Did you call and ask, or was that on their website? I'd be surprised if you couldn't work something out, especially if you offered to pay for shipping anyway (I assume they make some money off of shipping/handling fees). I know if I ran a small business I wouldn't turn away a sale, especially when I was making 100% profit on the shipping, even if it was just $40. Of course that's just me, people are different.

Many resellers don't stock at their office. They have space in a warehouse somewhere and things are just drop-shipped from the warehouse to the customer. The company you buy from may never see the actual laptop.

If you buy local you will pay tax, and it will be a lot of tax. You'd save a lot of money making a friend locally and having the laptop sent from out-of-state to them.

    I'm in Santa Clara.

If you live in California and buy through PowerNotebooks, XoticPC, or PCTorque, Sager will ship it to them first, then ship it to your front door to avoid the notoriously high California sales tax.

You're right. I want to hear why he doesn't have an address to ship to before I be a jerk.

I live on a boat and I would like to see the laptop in person if possible before purchasing. I ride a motorcycle and I want to see if it will fit into my backpack as well. I don't want to buy another backpack because this one has an integrated spine protector in it and I would like $2000 worth of computing equipment shoved between my vertebrae if I get in a crash.

well.. you should realize that you have a 30-day Full Satisfaction Guarantee if you get a Sager (or other vendors) system.

So if you do not like it or have any issues with it (like dead pixels), just return it within 30 days and you will get a full refund... less the shipping costs, of course.

Also, make sure you do not activate any of the software like Windows, or else they will not refund you that... since it cannot be re-stocked or re-sold if you activate the software already.

But having that laptop with the cigarette adapter makes it all better!

Hehe! just having some fun, I know when I ordered from PcTorque they shipped it out of California, maybe you can have them ship it to the UPS store?

Agreed. Having Sager ship it to a local UPS Store is probably the best choice.

    From PCTorque's website:

    Dimensions
    7.38 LBs with Battery Pack
    14.75" (w) x 10" (d) x 1.65"~2" (h)

Compare to your current laptop and there ya go.
