Hey guys,
I leave for afghanistan tomorrow. My 8690, about 2 months old, just started beeping in the middle of a tv episode on ITunes. The system must have been powered up for no more than a few minutes at best. It played about a 2 second tone with a 1 second pause repetitively until the system shut itself down about 20 seconds later. I rebooted it twice and it fails to boot up completely before it stats beeping and powers down.
The beeping makes me wonder if its some sort of overheating measure but I've never overclocked it. I don't have any of my owner's manuals as I have packed all of my belongings at this point.
Do any of you have any thoughts? I'm hoping this is not a serious issue as this could not have come at a more inconvienent time. Thanks guys.

A beeping computer may mean that your battery is depleted. Does the battery indicator show that it is charging (usually amber in color) while plugged in? You may want to remove and reinsert the battery to make sure the connection is being made from laptop to battery.

Heh, the battery was low but I'm fairly certain that's not the case. I've run it down before several times and it hasn't ever beeped like that. Additionally I have plugged it in and attempted to boot it up but it begins beeping again.

Uh oh, that's no good. If you suspect overheating, check the exhaust ports to make sure the fans are running, and also see if you can feel any heat emanating from underneath the keyboard. Processor is usually located around that area. Also, does the laptop show it is charging? Check the power brick because it will usually have a green light on it somewhere if power is being supplied.
Let me know if any of that helps -
If its one single long beep then a pause and repeat. What I would check is first the memory pull one out and see if that helps if not swap them around. But otherwise check the cooling too. But one long beep on a Phoenix BIOS is usually memory related, but not necessarily.
Sager 8690 need advice fast.
