    Hi All,

I'm almost ready to lay down $3K and get myself a new laptop. I'm trying to decide between the 8850 and the 8120 - what are your thoughts on gaming performance between the two? I'm not interested in hearing about heat issues, battery life, weight/portability, but strictly performance.

Also - are there any products rumored to be coming out between now and, say, January, that would make it worth waiting? I probably won't actually purchase before January, anyway.

I've listed the setups I'm deciding between below. The main question in my mind is whether crossfired 5870s will be far more powerful than a single 480. I believe it may be the case in some games, but not in others (depending how well a given game integrates crossfire). Thanks in advance!

    what's about this options?

    • Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M GPU with 1.5GB GDDR5 Video Memory in SLI Mode
    • Nvidia GeForce GTX 480M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 Memory + Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M GPU with 1.5GB GDDR5 Memory

dual 460m have a lot of OC potential without getting to hot.

or wait for the 580m!? or the raedon mobility 6 series?
the question is; do you want the notebook now? or how long youself can wait, maybe for sandy bridge?

You can wait if you want to, but the price is not going down.

    Dual 5870s > Dual 460M > Single 480M. And forget about the 480M + 460M combo. Total waste.

It's good that you're not buying until January, because we'll likely find out the release dates for the Mobility 6000 by then. Don't make a decision, before the announcement.

All that I want to wait for is sandy bridge, which may or may not be out before February.

i would definitely wait for the new nvidia 5xx and ATI cards to come out if u are considering dual card setups.

i have a similarly spec'd NP8850 (specs in sig) and it tackles through everything i've thrown at it so far. it's a total beast and the 480M is performing beautifully. my 480M has only peaked 64c-65c after hours, and hours of gaming so i'm not sure where alot of the negative rumors come from.

new tech is right around the corner though, so it'll be nice to wait. u could decide on the newest tech, or get the current stuff at a cheaper price.
