I've done all the searches on this. Fans turn on full blast, computer beeps, led lights blink on and off in unison, then the computer shuts off. This happens within 30 seconds of the computer being on. I've tried different ac adapters, I've cleaned out the fans and fins, I've repasted the cpu and gpu and cam confirm they are not overheating. I have also unplugged the cmos battery. I also unplugged ram sticks and tried each separately with no change.

Computer has been getting a bit sluggish the last month or so but didn't think much of it. I got a blue screen last week for the first time ever on my 9150. Got my 2nd blue screen 2 days ago, and as of today the computer will not turn on for longer than a minute.

The minute I do have with the computer, I checked the device manager and the computer seems to have disabled the Nvidia gpu for some reason.

    I7 3460
    680m
    500 ssd
    16g ram
Win 10 upgrade on top of a win 8 os.
Computer was purchased in march of 2013.

    or hard drive.
as you said youve got a ssd which make is it.
also not sure which is the best software to do a sector scan as ive never had to test a ssd before.

normal software would be HD Tune or HD Sentinal. link for hd tune can be found below.

Computer won't stay on long enough to complete a system restore or even boot in safe mode. I get 30 seconds tops.

I doubt I'd have enough time to scan an ssd. I also have no other computers that can connect to an ssd

Your laptop (the p150em) will not work if you remove the gpu.
The EC will shut it down after a few seconds if it doesn't detect the mxm gpu.

    What is an ec?

Also, that doesn't make sense. The motherboard has a built in video card. Intel hd4000.

I believe EC stands for embedded controller. It handles various things for the computer, such as providing backlighting, fan speeds, etc. Most EC's don't let you boot without an MXM GPU as far as I know (assuming your computer has an MXM GPU slot).

most clevos, that is ;) it does work on alienwares, for example :)

but thats right, u need to have the mxm slot populated with a gpu in order to properly use the system, even if its just running on the igpu. according to prema, u can do a workaround with a defective mxm gpu by desoldering/removing the vbios chip and leave the mxm card in its slot :)

Dang, so it could either be the gpu or motherboard..... I already purchased a new motherboard to test. I pray it's not the gpu because it is crazy expensive. If it turns out my gpu is defective I will take it to a local shop to confirm.

So uhh.... has anyone attempted external gpu with the 9150s?

I'm not currently using msata right now as I have a 500g ssd..... is this slot the same one the wifi card is in??

Can I replace the multimedia card slot with something?

Laptop doesn't have an express slot so my options are limited, and when I game I use multiple USB ports, so I have a feeling using a USB 3.0 hub + USB egpu dock that I will be extremely limited on capability.

the wifi card in ur machine uses mini-pcie, so its not the same. it IS also possible to run an egpu through mini pcie though irrc :)

AFAIK msata can not be used for egpu.
only pcie slots can be used for egpu so in the p150em I think you can only use the mpcie slot used by your wifi card.

I believe that's correct. The SATA bus wouldn't be ideal for a (e)GPU, either way.

Yes, you could use the wireless card slot as it is mini PCI-E but it would be very bandwidth constrained at 1x 2.0 speeds.
