I'm looking to purchase a Crossover 2720 or 2730md. Will either of these monitors work using the HDMI port on the Sager 9170? It appears to be 1.4a which should support this, I just want to make sure before I purchase.

Also, any reason to chose display port over HDMI?

    Thanks!

You MUST use the displayport (native display port to display port or ACTIVE adapter from displayport to HDMI) or it wont function properly. The HDMI not want to seem to co-operate with higher resolutions or refresh rates.

1.4a supports up to 4096 x 2160 but only at 24 Hz, so I believe issues are in the refresh rate. 1.4b presumably supports 1080p at 120 Hz, but since the laptop is equipped with 1.4a, yes; you would need to use DP. :)

1.4a is supposed to support it but is never implemented properly it seems, but everyone has had success with display port.

Thank you for the reply. I purchased the 2720 MDP and a displayport cable, I hope all goes well!

It should do since i've heard of 120hz and high res panels working.

It's just a shame you wont be able to overclock the display.
