I've noticed quite a bit of people own this bad mother and I am going to purchase one this weekend. A couple of questions I had though...

Did you order your notebooks directly from Sager or a third party?

    Which is a better idea?

Also, is the dual video card setup absolutely necessary and I'd be dumb not to get it?

    thanks.

I hate talking for other people but I think most have ordered from a reseller such as xoticpc and powernotebooks

I would recommend the above resellers I mentioned, they have great customer service and prices.

As for SLI, it is not necessary...

You can always upgrade to 2 video cards later if you decide you want the extra performance.

Sure, you can run a 9260 without SLI. But would be pointless though to buy the most powerful notebook on earth and cripple it without any intention on going SLI ever.

I'd check their techsupport (if you need it) to make sure that they are available for you when you need it. Otherwise, I'd go with whomever has the lowest price for the componets you want it with, again just IMO.

The Dual video cards are not necessary, but I'd consider other notebooks if it doesn't appeal to you. The m570RU is a good choice if your not going dual.

He has more options for an upgrade in the future.

As I said, he can buy 1 card now and get another one in the future if he decides to.

Consider that the price of the second card won't come down much, plus shipping and handling costs, and you have the loss time for the install later, and potential finger pointing if there is a future problem. If you want SLi, I suggest you negotiate hard now, and get er done. I imagine the SLi option moves up the delivery launch, as it is more profitable for the dealer to ship also.

i got mine from www.pcmicroworks.com who were very helpful to me, and easy to negotiate with over the fone. its a system almost meant for dual GPUs... the only reason i didnt get two is cuz i wanted DX10 cards, but it wasnt out yet for this system... so i got this card as a placeholder, wen i KNOW im going SLI of a dx10 card in a few months. either way, this is def the best system to get.

If there's no intention, then sure; on the other hand, one of the attractions of the 9260 is that I don't have to utterly nuke my budget on the initial purchase, instead, I can slide into the full capacity 9260 by getting the 1 card version first, saving my lunch money, and getting a second and going SLi in a few months. Alternatively, I can wait until the 8800s come out and go SLi then.

The fact that the 9260 is available with 1x as well as 2x GPUs is a big point in its favor, not a detriment or a "cripple."

I'll second this; if you are not going to take advantage of the dual hard drives and dual video cards especially then get the M570RU/Sager NP5790. You'll basically have the same performance with a single hard drive/video card in a much slimmer/lighter design. It will also be less money.

I, too, purchased my 9260 from pcmicroworks and could not have been happier with my experience. Very easy to negotiate and I got my laptop in what seemed like record time. :D

I too got a 9260 and only went with 1 7950gtx, performance is good enough right now and sli d10x 8800 is just arround the corder so no point in shelling an extra 500 on a card i ll be changing soon enough next year when they become available... and if it isn t upgradable then i ll just get another 7950then...

Only one thing i was disapointed about the system was its very limited bios, wished there where a few options for overclocking, but guess its to be expected with laptops. Just waiting for a new bios or a thirdparty software to allow overclocking under vista 64...

Apparently they're continuing to push the edge - the intro page to their website is now announcing what looks like the Clevo M570RU with the latest Intel extreme C2D, the X7900. They'll be calling it the "Horizon."

Apparently Intel hasn't officially released the specs on it, but the X7900, in two steppings, G-0 and E-1, appears on page 11 of this document: http://download.intel.com/design/mobile/SPECUPDT/31407914.pdf

Other data on the X7900 appears in this document: http://download.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/31674504.pdf

according to which the X7900 will have a TDP of 44W.

yea... they just added that... im gonna wait till next year before i push my baby with quadcores... by then more testing will be done. and that horizon is just the m570... it took them long enuf to start reselling the best single GPU laptop... but yea.. i guess its gonna be a preorder type thing since its offering the x7900....

Intel officially announced the X7900 actually:
    http://laptoping.com/intel-core-2-extreme-x7900.html
However I am not sure if that means they released the specs.
I would not recommend a quad core processor at this time . . . if you haven't already, take a look at the sticky at the top of the Clevo forum that has Sager's official statement.
