Sager 9260/D900C running Win xp SP 3.

Problem is this. Prior to a recent reformatting, CD/DVD's would spin up fairly reliably in the DVDW drive. Sometimes I had to take it out and wipe the disk off or insert the disk a few times to get it to take, but it always did. It was always with the same CD/DVD's though, like my Win XP install disk.

After the reformat the problem is still there, and generally the same....except for one disk, my Warhammer Online install disk. No matter how many times I clean it, clean the drive, insert it, the disk simply wont read. It's a collection of two disk and my laptop wont recognize either of them. it does the same thing every time. I insert the disk, it spins a few times and I can hear the drive trying to 'find' the disk. Then it spins up to what I would say is 1/2 speed and stops then goes back into standby mode.

I know the two disk are good as they can be read by several of my buddies computers just fine, and my drive will still recognize any other disk I have, almost all on the first try but after no more than 2-3 inserts.

Below is what devcon.exe gives me.

    IDE\CDROMTSSTCORP_CD/DVDW_SN-S082D_______________SS03____\6&2C584529&0&0.0.0
    Name: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SN-S082D
    Setup Class: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} CDROM
    Upper filters:
    redbook
    Controlling service:
    cdrom
    Lower filters:
    imapi
    1 matching device(s) found.

In the CURRENTCONTROLSET registry entry I can't find the upper/lower filters. However at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE\CdRomTSSTcorp_CD/DVDW_SN-S082D_______________SS03____\6&2c584529&0&0.0.0

I DO get the upper/lower filters. If this is the cause, is there any way to change it? Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'm in Afghanistan so just getting another dvd drive isn't exactly practical ;)

For the same reason above I have on hand 2 Air Dusters at all times so blow out my computer. Cleaned the eye's and disc numerous times to no avail.

Normally I would chock it up to wear and tear on the drive and just get a new one. But for the drive to not read JUST the warhammer disk? I can't help but think it's a software/settings issue rather than hardware.

    well, since you have buddies....

1: i would copy the disk on their computer to an external hard drive then copy it to my computer. then install.
2: if your program has that stupid securerom then you'll have to find your own work arounds...but if it plays once installed..then you should be good to go.
