Well I have been seriously considering purchasing the Sager 9260 as a desktop replacement since my desktop recently died and was to slow anyway. Rarely if ever would travel with the 9260 , which is good given its bulk and weight. Then came across this other product a shuttle SD37P2
http://global.shuttle.com/share/product_data/spec/SD37P2_spec.pdf
and although much bulkier and no screen the weight is not that much different and since I would have been using the 9260 with an external LCD anyway (17 inch is just to small) it seems like a better way to go. Seems I can purchase all the components to make up a killer PC using any LGA 775 pin intel chip (up to quad core) and still have enough left over to buy a Sager 5760 for those times I do travel vs. a maxed out 9260.. So does anyone see any faulty logic in this approach. i.e buying a Sager 5760 + a home made SD37P2 system , vs buying a maxed out Sager 9260, since the dollars would be somewhat similar.

Nothing I see wrong with it, other then most people don't like the hassle of more then one computer..
The only question I've got is why? A 5760 (or the about to be replacement) is going to be nearly as fast as that shuttle you are talking about.. and if you don't think an LCD of a notebook is large enough, why buy one at all? -
Well I do need a laptop at times, although infrequent but I hate getting boxed in with a laptop on being able to change to newer hardware easy. Was committed to spending about $3K or so anyway so figured this may be a better option. Not actually a gamer, but need a lot of horsepower for software I use that is multi threaded, so the quad core seems a lot better for my needs , which I cant get in a laptop , at least not yet, and the 5760 is perfect for the road when I do need to go portable.

If you need performance, you should probably build a desktop, doesn't have to be SFF if you are getting a laptop with it.
