Does anyone run linux on 9261? I would like to know what are the components which do not work out of the box.

Just want to be sure before I buy one. Thanks :)

Usually with laptops...wireless, sound, and 3d acceleration do not work right "out of the box" Just need to download the drivers and install them in most cases. Sound adapters can be somewhat tricky at times, just a matter of determining which /dev/ device to manually select sometimes. Nvidia has generally had decent linux drivers.

I understand. Even in windows you would have to install drivers etc. to get your sound/vid card working.

Wanted to know if there any components in this lappy which never work (even with config changes and tweaking) under linux.

Only things that may have issues is the 7 in 1 card reader...and the tv tuner if you get it. Special devices like that and other things like fingerprint readers...are a little more sketchy on linux support.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Probably the programmable buttons too, and the LCD at the top of the keyboard.

I'll be putting VMWare Workstation on my 9261 followed by linux and QNX installations. I'll let you know how it goes.

    I got my D900C yesterday.

Everything works right out of the box!!! I didn't even edit a single config file.
    Distro: Ubuntu 7.10.
This includes the buttons on top: Mail, Internet etc

The only problem I have is that the headphone jack was not working. That's got nothing to do with linux though.

I'll post some pictures later on.

    Go ubuntu! :D

D900C, did you order and get an old model?
    Mine is a D901C or a Sager NP9261.

I don't see any difference between 900C/901C. I think the 901C has the finger print reader .. which I don't really need.

The 901C - Sager NP9261 does not come with a fingerprint reader, not standard anyway. No, the most important difference is in its revised motherboard/bios, now supporting a 1333MHz FSB instead of a 1066MHz FSB (in 900C - Sager NP9260). An other difference could be the display, mine does have a 1920x1200 resolution.

I had the option of going for the 1333 MHz proc but I wanted the Quad Q6600 which has a FSB of 1066MHz. The options were the same as in the Xotic page.

    I still don't see a difference

Well, maybe there is none. I believe you may have a new NP9261 because the 900C has a serious known issue with the Q6600 and they shouldn't have configured it for you this way.

If you bought your machine after Oct 14 you should have what has been labeled as the "901C" or the 9261 more important here. The "901C" has the new motherboard revision that supports the quad core from sager and the 1333 fsb. Prior to that the "900C" could use the processor but Sager would not support it or warranty it. The only to tell for sure is to check the mother board revision. I don't remember exactly but I think it should be 5.4A but search around and find it to be sure.

Ok back to my question, I have been trying to install 7.10 but I think I downloaded a bad .iso or I am having a problem with the raid configuration. Has any one with a similar configuration had any problems? I am going to try the .iso on my 7.04 install today but thought I would ask?

The D901C is the black one, while the D900C is the blue version.
