Hey I am having a hard time finding the 9.5mm hard drives online. Can I purchase a typical laptop HDD? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I was wondering about installing your OS on a smaller SSD and then using a main HDD for everything else. Has anyone had success with this?

Normal laptop HDD's are 9.5mm, the unusual ones are 12.5mm, and they should always state as such.

OS on SSD and larger storage drive is one of the most common setups with SSD's and should work absolutely fine.

    Thanks for the quick answer.

I guess I wasn't clear about what I believe is in my 9262... The HDD is actually more like a ram stick that plugs in to this shell. Is this just a custom, open HDD? Can I replace it with a normal HDD?

All of the hdds in the 9262 are laptop standard sata hdd's. As I recall the hdds in the cage are upside down compared to normal laptops, so the underside does look a lot like a ram stick.

Rorschach is correct, all 3 HDD's in the 9262 are standard 9.5mm 2.5" laptop HDD's, all 3 (2 in the caddy under dedicated panel and one under the battery) are mounted upside down, so may look strange. If you need any help with this, take a look at the service manual in my sig.

The HDD is like a RAM only that it has a spinning part and the RAM is missing :p

Not unless the drive is thirty years old... Otherwise it should at least have a disk buffer. :p
