If I buy a Sager 9262 with only one hard drive (so no RAID obviously) can I add a hard drive of the same size/speed later and enable RAID?
This might be a silly question, but I was looking at Sonys until I came across the Sagers, and the Sonys you can't add a hard drive later, you can only replace. So if you wanted two hard drives you had to order it with two.

Also, do Sager laptops come with the actual Windows, etc. DVDs/CDs?

And what's the best place to buy one if I want to configure it? From the Sager website or elsewhere?

    Thanks!

I don't know anything about Sager 9262's but I've never seen a laptop with multiple hard drives in my life....

Well, then get ready for up to three (3) - count 'em, three - drives in one notebook.

To the OP: You can even order the NP9292 as a barebones (at which point you're ordering a Clevo D901C, which is what the Sagers are built on) with no drives, and add them at your leisure. You certainly do not have to order the NP9262 with the maximum number of drives you eventually plan to install in it, unlike, apparently, _Sony.

And, yes, they come with an actual copy of .Windows - whatever flavor of XP or _Vista floats your boat (except XP MCE) - or you can even get them with no OS at all, if that's more to your liking. :D

Sager generally doesn't compete directly with its own resellers on pricing, so you're as likely to get a good deal from one of the resellers listed in the stickied thread called the Clevo Guide as you are directly from Sager itself.

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted to hear.
I really like the look of the Sony AW, but man for the price the innards are just not up to snuff compared to any of the Sagers, not to mention how difficult it is to upgrade a Sony. I mean, I can order a hard drive and install it, but to have to find a presumedly proprietary Sony cable to install a hard drive is just stupid!

I hear you, and you do not, and I mean do not, want to get me started on _Sonys and hardware upgrades - all I'll say is, _Sony lies about the ability to upgrade the hard drive on the PCG-Z1A (which I still have, sad to say - a 1.3GHz centrino gets tired easily these days).

Yeah, I think the Sony was a good buy for my wife (we got her a 13" VGN-SR140E at Fry's). It does exactly what she wants and we never need to upgrade it. I really liked the look of it, but it just isn't for power users and people who like to build their own systems.

It's not even built for cheapskates like myself who keep a system for 5 or 6 years (yikes).

Oh you haven't huh...This is one reason why i'm ecstatic about Sagers, most noteably the Sager 9262.
