so, I have two failed HDD's, with one still working (one failed still in the system) and a failed cd/DVD drive
so before my warranty's up, I want to send in for repair ( RMA is already set up, waiting on me now)
the issue is I installed a quadro fx 2700m in it, and xoticpc says that it's not a qualified GPU with the 9262 (I've been using it for a year plus, works great cept half the time display won't work till I hit fn+f7 a bunch of times and open and close the lid even more times). Although thats incredibly annoying, the power increase from the included 1600m makes up for it.
I also have a quadro fx 3700m that's been sitting around cause I believe the bios of the system needs to be flashed in order for it to work (tried everything except that, no avail)
the issue is... I can't find the screws to the 1600m, meaning if I send the system in it'll have the 'non-qualified' GPU in it, perhaps voiding my warranty (?)
bigger issue is to fit the heatsink on the 2700m, I had to perform micro surgery on the heatsink screw holes, and for sure they will see that when they pop it open to take the failed HDD out. plus when they turn it on they may just see a blank screen (40% the case) cause of the fn+f7 close lid open lid issue... (although always works with external monitor)
because of the lost screws I have no choice but to leave the fx2700m, is that bad? only other option is to go searching for screws that'll fit the 1600m (which is a terrible card compared to the 2700, esp the 3700)
bah, any advice would be greatly appreciated, time is a big issue right now
thanks!!!
Dan

Why not just send-in the failed stuff. Sager should recognize the serial numbers and should repair/replace those devices for you. This will save you and Sager a lot of time/money, I guess...
-
If the Quadro FX2700M is originally a Clevo card (not an HP one), then don't worry about warranty, the Clevo D90xC (Sager NP9262) supports this VGA card officially.
Look at the P/N graved above the Nvidia die and post it here, I will tell you if your card is originally a CLEVO. -
sending in just the failed parts would be great, not sure they don't want to do that-- I've been emailing xoticpc, and they've been forwarding and contacting Sager for the repair (maybe because I mentioned time is a huge factor, originally i wanted to drop off in person. I'm located in LA, and Sager is as well, not xotic)
as for the 2700m I'm almost certain it's from HP, it was only 60 bucks but it's served well... although I'm for certain pushing it past it's limit, wished the 3700m was working
the engraving on the 2700 is P610 (or PB9831 M2W, orrr G94-975-A1)
more worried bout them seeing the heatsink surgery and blaming that for the failed HDDs
thanks again -
not the engraving on the die itself, just above the die on the card.
-
yeah, p610 was above the die but again I'm pretty positive it was taken from a HP 8710

The only danger here is if they simply keep your 2700m card and send you back a notebook with no GPU.
Its been known to happen before, so dont be surprised if they wont give you your card back because its not what you bought it with.
As for the 3700m, there is probably something you can do to get it working. why haven't you flashed the BIOS? -
well my reasoning before was I was in the middle of thesis and couldn't take the chance of it being bricked, perhaps I can try now. any chance they will supply me with a new heatsink? I had to make the screw holes larger for te 2700, the 3700 would fit the same as the card they gave me. perhaps in the 'kindness' of their hearts (doubt it)
-
supply you with one for free, certainly not lol. RJtech sells them for 60$
-
ha darn, might be worth the investment for me, searching everywhere for those nasty small screws
ok thanks for the replies! consensus is I'm going to drop it off in person, the whole system that is. hope they don't swipe my GPU...
