Hello I have a quick question, currently I have a 128GB SSD with only the OS installed and a 750GB HDD for everything else.

I was wondering if I would be able to add another 240GB SSD on the 9380 without having to sacrifice anything or will I have to remove the dvd rw drive?

    Thank you

If you want a regular 2.5" drive then you'll have to sacrifice the optical drive. Otherwise there's 2 mSATA slots available for extra storage.

Presumably your current drives are using the two standard SATA connections. So your options are, use one of the two mSATA slots, sacrifice the optical drive, replace the optical drive, or use a external drive.

mSATA drives tend to be SSD only, harder to find (and limited options), and cost more. But do a search for mSATA drives to get an idea of your options.

You know, I was just looking at mSATA's right when I saw that my 240GB SSD had shipped :( are there any performance trades off's from a MSATA SSD and a 2.5" SSD? if not I might return the 2.5 and just get an MSATA.

Also does anyone have any instructions on how to remove the dvd drive? I have been building desktops since 99 but I have never touched a laptop haha, even though I'm not concerned about going in blind. I would just like to get an idea.

And yes I was just thinking of buying a cheap USB external dvd burner, thats what I was going to do actually.

There's really no difference in a mSATA and SSD performance wise, just form factor and connection to motherboard.

You should have a manual.pdf on the drivers disc which will show you how to remove the optical drive.

The optical drive is secured by a single screw. You'll have to remove the cover on the back and then you should see it. Once you've removed the screw it slides right out. All you need then is a caddy if you're going to put the storage drive in the optical bay. :)

Take out the battery, then look for a bright, shiny, silver screw in the lower left corner. Take out this screw, then use your screwdriver to very gently push out the optical drive from its bay.

Also note that if you do want to use the optical bay for your SSD, you'll need to acquire a caddy.

My mistake: it is under the battery!

So long as you get a decent msata like the m500 then yes.
