I want to upgrade my wonderfull Sager 9750 from a 4200+ to an Opteron 185 (2.6Ghz).

Is it possible or not ? Does the D900K support Opteron 185 ?

    Please help !

I've tried to install an opteron 180 2.40 Ghz on my alienware aurora 7700 based on a clevo d900k motherboard. Anyway the CPU is running at 1 Ghz as I can see in cpuz and AMD utilities. I supposed it was a processor driver problem, I tried to install AMD drivers from Alienware site, from Sager site and from AMD too, but nope... The notebook is attached to power supply, without battery, so it shouldn't be an energy saving problem. Should I flash the bios with another version in order to run opteron at full speed?
Thank you very much in advance for answers and help :)

    There is no driver issue.

Its more of a Cool N Quiet issue... which conflicts with the Opteron.

You have to use RMclock to override the motherboard's config... to get your CPU to run at full speed.

Next time dont necropost... just PM me. :)

So does power management ever work properly on a D900K with an Opteron installed?

Mine will never show the system on AC power once the battery's charged to 100%.

You have to pull the battery and plug in to allow certain software or updates to install.

Is this something you have to live with??

    Hope not...

    Thanks.

Gophn beat me to my post.
I have been able to get the Opteron 185 to be pretty stable in the system. So far in 20 days, it has only respawned on me twice, but I think that was because of some random BSOD unrelated to the processor.
One respawn was today in the middle of class. The system just shut off while attempting to load gmail.
Otherwise it is working fine. I just upgraded the harddrives to the 7K320's from Hitachi and it seems to be working well.

I set my rightmark profile to run performance on demand when running all of the time, and power saving when on battery.
Mine throttles between 1000Mhz and 2600Mhz per core based on the half FID's from AMD.
If you would like I can send you a screenshot of every tab I have in rightmark, so you can simply make your settings match mine.
I have never had the problem you have, but their is one thing to know.
When you install the drivers, do not install the AMD driver, because it will install cool and quiet, which does not work well with Opteron series processors.

are you saying that the system does not boot when the battery is fully charged?
You should elaborate rather than posting the same post twice.

My suggestion was if the problem was occurring through windows.

The latest bios revision is 1.00.09, so you should look for that if you do not already have that bios revision.

It post's/boots fine, v64 ult. just shows the battery @ 100% when charged but doesn't indicate plugged in at that point. Some sw and service packages won't install when the sys shows to be just on battery.
Also all the power settings will only key off the unit being on battery in APM because the unit doesn't see itself as plugged in once the battery is charged to 100%. It will see itself as charging and on AC if you run it on battery and then plug it back in. Once it hits 100% it just indicated the battery @ 100% but not on AC power.

Does this w/2 different chargers, 3 different batteries..........

I haven't done anything else with this install untill I can determine if it's the opteron causing it, software settings or the note is just bad w/this being the first indication.

The book is supposed to be a new barebones unit.

The bios has been ud'd to rev .09 but I don't recall what the keyboard bios rev was, if it was to be found on the exterior of the KB anywhere.

The unit is now been returned to Target PC eBay Sales due to the unit being received "new" with the lock strip missing from the keyboard connector so it didn't have the keyboard connected and functional on receipt. They have stated that they have "repaired" the connector but now want my hardware, software key, and 200.00 dollars to look at the APM/Battery indication problem.

This has become a real PIA for something that may be simple fix problem if I find out what may be causing the problem.

Do you still have the system, cause I think the problem you are having is related to your power options profile.
If you use cpu rightmark, you can go in and select different battery parameters, and you can see if the battery is actually charging or not.
If the battery is continually charging or the icon shows that way, than the battery may have wear on it, and thus is always shown as charging when it really is not charging.
The battery problem seems to be like a software issue, it may not work in vista x 64, with rmclock, I know the battery stuff works fine on my d900k.

    One thing though,
when the battery says 100% charged, is the middle light on the screen brown or yellow?
If its brown, than the battery is actually still charging.
If the battery light is yellow the battery is fully charged. The software just is reading your power profiles wrong.

You can use rightmark to make your own profile, and adjust the speed of the processor, so if you still have the system, their is plenty of things you can still try to work out.

This problem shows on all three good batteries I have. When the APM shows 100%, all three lights are on blue (D900K Aurora w/wireless on) pull AC and let it discharge for a while, plug in and the charge is orange I think, while charging shows charging and on AC, once it hits 100% just shows battery @ 100% and not on AC. So then the whole APM/sys acts like its on battery (dims display, lowers other power functions etc.).

    Quite the PIA..............

what are your power option settings.
You should set the system to run in "always on' mode.

or you can go into rightmark and force the processor to run in always on mode if the windows power options are not working for you.

After shipping the unit off, having the vendor assemble it, and getting it back still hosed, I replaced the opteron 180 w/AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor and reinstalled Vista 64 and all is well. Except for all the trouble, expenditure, time and the now scratched up and missing screws unit that wasn't even double boxed back to me like I sent it.

What a waste of my time and money "Target PC".

    Freakin Pathetic.......
