You guys been given a shipping date yet?

A source of mine has confirmed the exact problem with Sager and i cant believe the reason they are holding them back is so small.

Just curious what the customers are being told now?

    Any update from anyone?

I have no problem with mine, im talking bout the reason Sager decided not to ship the 9850/m980

I heard down grapevine what the problem is and admit im astounded they held back release because of it

was wondering what the people who have pre-ordered the Sager have been told :)

yup and all over an issue with 1 game, yes thats right 1 game...coming from the words of Sager themselves...1 game...which is most prob a driver issue...

totally worth not releasing the machine...

I heard it was several games but the one they mention was that driving game Grid specifically but I was also told you could notice it in Crysis and I know there was at least one other game was mentioned not sure what one. In all cases though you had to have your settings totally maxed on everything. I think the laptop should be able to run everything maxed but if I don't do AA then no stuttering, I could live with that.

I also believe Sager is giving up on finding/fixing the issue and the laptop will be released soon so was it worth all the grief Sager got and the upset pre-ordered customers, I think not. Worthy try if Sager would of found and fixed it quickly but it's about a month now from the original release. Shame really cause it only affects Sagers reputation.

they have noticed stuttering in 1 game, which tbh i wasnt even aware it was still played, it was an old tittle. From what i have been told it only effected that game when the fps went over 100 then there was random stuttering bringing fps down to single figures

I can understand its annoying but for an older game and 1 game is it worth delaying the entire machine?

i meant the insider i have info from mentioned grid :)

But he said that was the only game, if i run Crysis at 1920x1080 with every thing maxxed inc AA then i get stuttering, its called 10 fps through too much expectation lol

Pman - Side question - Do you use a notebook cooler with the M980NU and if so which one and does the laptop hang over on it being it's quite large in size.

    Just received from Sager:

"The notion that Sager is delaying release because of a problem in a single game is false. Sager has discovered issues in several games and is concerned that this issue will also affect upcoming releases. Sager have confirmed with Clevo there are both mechanical and software issues with the unit, and are working with Clevo to resolve the issues so that our customers will know they have a 100% functional unit that will work on both current releases and hopefully future releases as well. When Sager releases a product Sager believes our customers should have confidence the product will work.

Status Update: There have been a number of mechanical and software fixes provided by Clevo during the past month, and having carefully verified each solution Sager has concluded that all the issues we have noticed in these tested games have been solved and it is in the final testing stages, which should be closed off today."

    Hallelujah :) :)

pman, would you mind running occt gpu test without the NZXT CRYO LX cooler, and posting a screen cap of the temps :)

novatech are picking mine up on monday, and i am wondering if they will accept there is any issue with the cards, based on high temps from occt :(

also does your source have an estimated date for the unclocked bios release ?

also which coolant paste does kobalt use for the m980nu ?

    pure ice ? :D

If you live in the USA, you can buy the Clevo M980NU from the bare-bone reseller RJtech.com right now. You can choose to not have the RAM, CPU, HDD, wireless, and other options not installed but it will come with the GTX 280M SLI.

My friend just put his order in and expects it in about 2-3 weeks. At that time I will provide any updates on stuttering.

i been thinking about this and i have no problems and niether have the dozens of others who have got m980's in the uk, only fatpanda and thats a whole unit issue

If there was a serious issue Clevo would be all over this and there would be problems with all the m980nu's that have been sold worldwide of which i havent heard anyone complain bar sager.

Which either means they are fussing over nothing or they have a different build of m980nu

Either which way they shouldnt say its an inheriant fault when it blantently is not

    they are talking crap

So how's the build quality on these things? Like screen wobble and such? Does the LCD screen itself look good? Is a notebook cooler really needed if it's going to be sitting on a flat desk 99% of the time? yeah it'll have the 2x280s but p8700. Glad these are finally coming out. hopefully.

i personally think its a tank, a really solid build.

i love the keyboard, it is great to type on with the keys having great weight and no flex - only downside is the odd shaped number pad.

i hate the touchpad, due to the piano finish - it looks good but its a serious fingerprint magnet and not enjoyable to use/touch at all.

the screen is fantastic, bright and colourful.

the speakers are great, loud and clear.

fan noise is too loud for my tastes, but i have an inferno of a machine as you can see above so that may be the issue.

runs all programs with no trouble at all, and is really fast.

for the price/performance/screen/features - there is none better.

no i didnt use the cooler in that run it was just sitting on my desk with the cryro cooler it hit 67

yeh your temps as insane that is why it is noisy if you press fn+1 then it changes the fan speed. Mine only ever sits on low even on full load i believe the trigger to high is 75 and mine never hits that

I agree with the track pad it isnt great, but tbh i have it on a desk 98% of the time and i have a Logitech Mx Revolution hooked up to it and i have the nano version for when i am away from my desk too

I have been singing the praises of the screen for some time but notebookcheck played it as a bad screen which is just simply not true

I hope they are coming out but i will be very interested to see what hardware mods they have apparently done to it, i bet it was something stupid like the pads they used on the cards or something like that. I bet Sager went cheap and used naff pads

    From Sager:

"Sager NP9850 released shipping starts today,

Stuttering issue has been pin pointed by Clevo that it is caused by system vibration from audio to disk drives.

Solution is apply sponge padding to related area as well as driver tuning."
