Does anyone know if Sager has a 98XX model planned with a Core 2 Duo (Conroe, not merom) in it? From what I've read, the current chipset in the 9890 doesn't support the new processor.

That is correct, the chipset does not support the Conroe.

There are no current plans on the roadmap for Sager to upgrade the NP9890 to the Conroe, but just wait a little while and you will see some exciting new Sager releases.

Your statements are intriguing. Are you hinting at a new model just for the Conroe? I’ll take the safer route and say its not likely.

Not sure I understand Chaz...the NP9750 with the Athlon X2 dual core AMD has been shipping for months. What am I missing?

The question here is about the Intel Core2 Duo "Conroe" desktop processor in the NP9890.

Well yes, but WidowPC has the new Socket AM2 version of the D900K - the older one used Socket 939. AM2 adds DDR2 support and some other stuff. This is the only notebook I have seen it in.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the AM2 will never be in the D900K, or any upgraded version of that shell. Nor will the Socket 939 FX-62.

The D900 series will not see any new upgrades, and will die a warrior's death by sometime next year.

That's interesting - I wonder where WidowPC got that. But I'll take what you say over what is posted on their site.

I was wondering that as well.

My information comes from the highest possible source at Sager.

From a pure performance stand point. AM2 doesn't really offer much. I couldn't imagine an AM2 based laptop selling well at this point.

Anway, thanks for the info Paladin and Chaz.

There won't be any more upgrades to the NP9890 or NP9750. There won't be any new 17" models using the high end video cards until next year.

I hope this helps to clarify the situation.

9750 (Clevo D900K) seems to have upgraded to AM2 socket to handle upto Athlon FX-62 now. I think that DDR2 would be a good thing for the AMD notebook.

I think WidowPC has that model for ordering.. unless if it was a mistake, i saw it a day or two ago.

Gophn, please read this thread. That "rumor" has already been debunked.
