Good day all,
I'm in the market to buy a new laptop. I would prefer to buy the 9170. However, with all the talk regarding the new GTX 780m and Haswell processors coming out, I was considering waiting. How long of a wait should I expect? Also, I've read on these forums about the speaker problems on the 9170 and some other minor design flaws on the 9170 that I am considering waiting for Clevo/Sager to refresh their laptop line as well?
Should I wait for the new line of improvements or should I pull the trigger now?
Any input? Thanks.
Pete

Normally we'd say if you wait now, you'll always be waiting since theres always something bigger or better coming out soon. But since the rumors of release dates arent too far away now it may not hurt to wait. If you dont need to replace the computer right now I'd wait and see what happens.
I've been thinking about replacing my desktop GPU's but will wait for the 7XX for those since my current ones are treating me just fine. -
What she said. I don't suspect the 780M will be out instantly with haswell in ~june, but if it is, then fantastic. The P170EM indeed isn't clevo's best work from what I hear, but it's still a good machine. If you need one now, go ahead. If you are able to wait, then waiting in this instance is a good idea. If you're like me and your machine is literally breaking and you want a new one as soon as money arrives, then I'd say if it's within 2-3 weeks of waiting then wait. If you're in that situation NOW and need a machine NOW or you could be realistically without a machine very soon unless you get a new one, then get it now.

Since there appears to be no official release date - rather, slated rumors - you could end up waiting longer than you care to. Current hardware is awfully capable as it is, so there's a chance you don't even need what's around the corner at the moment.
Of course, there's always the perk of better future proofing yourself as well. You're welcome to wait a short amount of time and see when new lineups are officially announced, and go from there. There is at least quite a bit of info on the upcoming hardware specs so you can base your judgement on waiting or not somewhat on that.
