I was wondering why our power bricks are so frickin massive? I understand power consumption of components and all that good stuff, but dammit the AW / DELL are so much thinner while still delivering 220-330 W?

what gives? are there any alternatives?

Price of manufacture for the 230w and the larger output ones are not that much smaller iirc.

I have no idea what this laptop draws under full load, but we have a Dell M6700 (Ips screen and Quadro K5000m) and those power bricks are like half of the size... i saw the bulkier alienware m18x brick (330 Watts one) and those are still much smaller than the one that came w this laptop, although they're both capable of running the identical specs (cpus, dual gpus etc).

Sager targets a lower market segment than alienware so dell can afford to use higher quality but smaller electronics in the brick basically.

if you cannot tell clevo and dell apart from seeing outside, you will see the material quality difference when you unscrew the cover. my next rig must be dell after seeing the cheap chassis and non-black-painted fans of clevo.
