I was hoping that people would be willing to share any experiences they had installing linux on a sager/clevo notebook including your laptop model, problems you ran into and which distribution you were using.

I know there were a few posts in the owners lounge but I didn't see a separate thread for this.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I must have missed it.

That will definitely help me when making my decision.

Just letting you know, Mythlogic offers Ubuntu now with their laptops, and they set everything up and get the best drivers etc

What this means in the world of Linux ?
The drivers is updated with each karnel, no need that a reseller get them.

Actually I was planning on partitioning my hard drive and dual-booting windows and linux. If I don't install windows first it will cause problems. Also, I've used ubuntu a bit before but I was planning on giving Fedora and openSUSE a trial run after I order my notebook.

Also be aware that optimus is not supported by NVIDIA under Linux, which can be a big negative. There are third party solutions to replace it, but I haven't used them so I can't speak to their reliability.

I was under the impression that clevo/sager doesn't support optimus anyway...

Bumblebee is pretty nice. It's the only choice for current-gen Optimus machines and is the best solution in lieu of official Nvidia support or the upcoming X redesign.

I am using linux exclusively (openSUSE), everything works great on the P150HM, two exceptions:
    - fingerprint reader
    - THX subwoofer sound
I think the fingerprint reader is fixable, but I don't see any advantage in using it...

I would go for one of the machines w/o Optimus (P150/P170 series) as the drivers on linux don't support Optimus (some hacks are being worked on, but asaik nothing official), and without driver support you cannot use the discrete video card at all...

I am using D901C with Ubuntu 10.04. It runs great, but I was not able to make the webcam work. Using linux has several advantages. It has a great collection of software for video sound and image processing, programming and all major distributions have repositories which makes the installing and maintenance of the programs easy.
