Can anyone comment on the quality of the speakers that come with the Sager/Clevo units? As I find myself using the speakers quite often it is something that is important is making a decision.

Seems to be generally consensus that among the common gaming laptops that the MSI units have the best.

Also if you are able to comment and have used another machine previously please post how it compares as I have worked on many laptops over the years.

    Thanks!

They're very average in terms of laptop speakers. The THX software helps, but as with most laptops it's highly recommended to have a decent pair of headphones if quality is important.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Not sure if you have used any of the ideapad laptops from lenovo but I currently have a y510 and find the sound quality / loudness to be adequate. however the speakers on the thinkpad series (w520, t520) i would say are not very good. trying to get a baseline as comparison....

I have Sager 8130 (Clevo 151), the speakers are slightly below average. (In polite words)

It sucks (personally speaking) in other words. :D But then I don't need good speakers on a laptop.

I also have an np8130, I think the speakers are a little above average. Though headphones and a external DAC are a must if you want good sound quality.

in would appear based on your signature that you had a y460 at some point. how would you compare the speakers on the y460 to your current sager?

also would the 8130 have the same speakers as the 8170?

Y460 had better speakers in my personal opinion compared to 8130. But 8130 exceeds in all other aspects.

    I don't have 8170, so I don't know, sorry.

Same here. I had a thread about it somewhere. I know I shouldn't expect much from a laptop but still...it does suck. And I usually dont care that much for audio.

As everyone here already said, the quality of the speaker is not good. Well, it's laptop speaker. If you really care about sound quality, get yourself a decent pair of cans + a USB DAC.

I have an 8170, and the quality is definitely sub-par - highly recommend headphones or a different audio solution.

Granted, this is me coming from a Dell Studio XPS 1640, which, despite the crap that it is, has excellent speakers.

It doesn't bother me too much though. Laptop speakers are right on the very bottom of my priority list.

    For Malibal and whatnot -

Is it possible to get a superior sound card when taking the order? Is that an option you guys provide?

How good is the default sound card? I'm planning on getting some uber headphones.

Any sound card, amp, or DAC you'd want would be external--not internal. Therefore, I'd just buy one myself.

You have an option of ordering a much better soundcard, but soundcard isn't the biggest issue. The speakers are just not meant to cope with providing any decent soundwave.

As mentioned all sound card options are external. Even if you got one of those you'd still have to hook up external speakers to it. There really isnt a way to improve the built in speakers. Headphones are a good option

I actually really like my 5.1 system in my 170HM you do have to have THX installed and it helps to tweak the settings and have it set to Rock on the EQ to get a broader sound but in general the output is low, it sounds as though it could handle more sadly but 100% is 100% :)

I found the main thing that was odd was the sound not correctly positioned, for some reason the centre speaker is located to the left :/ so just having the 2 main 2 surround and sub is spot on.
