    Hello all,
I have had my sager for over a month now. I wrote a mini review a little while back when this lappy was still a relatively new and hot item to have. I write this only to slightly amend what I had previously said and to complain a lot about the keyboard.

The keyboard on the laptop is unacceptable. UNACCEPTABLE! I spent a lot of money on the laptop and I would have expected it to have a nice, tactile, keyboard. But it simply does not. I have used many keyboards in my lifetime and I have NEVER EVER used one this lousy. Writing anything on this P.O.S. is a freaking chore. I kid you not that I will have notices upwards of 50 spelling mistakes within this paragraph or so simply because the space bar DOES NOT WORK. Whatsoever. It is not uncommon for me to be writing an essay and have one huge word underlined in red because if you do not absolutely SLAM the thumbbar the **** thing will not register. It is so annoying that today while writing my latest essay I threw a chair through my wall. I urge everybody who wishes to use this laptop for school to NOT PURCHASE IT. You will not be able todoschool work on it at all. ( I have left the last compound word justto let people know how bad the thing is)

If you are set on buying this computer,do yourself a favor and get anexternal keyboard. Its not a big deal for wasd gaming, but forwriting anything ofany length itbecomes a veryannoying thing.

As you can see in the above paragraph... 5 errors.

I think that my point has been made. If there are questions?

    Johnny

If the keyboard is an issue, contact Sager (or your vendor) and tell them the issue.

They will just send you another keyboard, which is extremely easy to switch out (no screws or anything).

For the time being, you can check to see if your keyboard is faulty or the connection may need to be re-seated.

    Clevo M860TU Keyboard Removal:

    1. Turn off the computer, and remove the battery.
    2. Press the four keyboard latches at the top of the keyboard to elevate the keyboard from its normal position (you
may need to use a small flathead screwdriver to do this).
    3. Carefully lift the keyboard up, being careful not to bend the keyboard ribbon cable.
    4. Disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the locking collar socket.
    5. Carefully lift up the keyboard off the computer.

Speak for yourself sir; you're the only one I've seen who seems to have problems with the spacebar.

Sorry, I was trying to do too many things at once and didn't properly read your entire post (as short and sweet as it was); I just reread it and, quite obviously, you weren't addressing either myself or Gophn, duh.

Stewart, as Kev said, speak for yourself...
If your laptop has a problem, it doesn't mean that everyone's laptop are, and I quote, a P.O.S.
The keyboard might not be the best in the world and may skip the odd letter, but it's not a major issue and definately not one that should prevent people from getting this amazing laptop.

Hoping not to raise any interminable discussions but I tend to agree a bit with the op. It might not be as bad as he describes (for me at least), maybe because I tend to slam the keyboard while typing but is true, it does not always register keys, especially the space-bar. I'm not using the computer extensively for writting though so maybe if I'd be doing heavy typing it would become a bit more annoying until I get used to it but in the occasional mail/forum etc I really have to keep my eyes opened to check for missing chars/spaces. As I said, not extremly annoying but still not a good quality keyboard, I'd say somewhere in the middle just like the screen ;). Anyway, I bought the laptop for the insides so a mid-quality keyboard/screen won't bother me at all :p.

    Yes everybody,
While I agree that I should speak for myself, that is what I was trying to do. Maybe those of you with the same computer have not got the same problems, and I hope this is the case. And also I would like to remind people that I do tend to type at least one 2500 word essay each day, so it is really a worst case scenario also. But that doesnt change the fact the my keyboard is horrible. I thanks whoever it was that suggested getting a new one to install. That is a good idea and I will do that and keep you guys updated.

The 'U' key on my keyboard is bad. You have to slam it or hit it directly in the centre. I'v had no problems with the space bar though. I might try removing the keyboard and putting it back in to see if it makes any difference cos it's very annoying. Apart from that, I love this laptop

You wrote that you were amending the review to tell people that they keyboard on this laptop sucks.

On the contrary I literally can not get the spacebar to NOT work. That double negative is correct, I can not hit the spacebar light or fast enough to get it to not register a space.

There is something wrong with your keyboard.

I have even removed my spacebar, granted the putting the spacebar back together was difficult, but it works as fine as it did before.

Granted, this particular keyboard isn't the best for speed-typing (as the keys are quite flat and not really that springy so as to prevent accidental double-key tapping)... and I admit I have gotten a little annoyed at having to go back to correct errors... but my keys were fine. Even the spacebar was fine. I definitely think you should look into getting a replacement.
I bought this laptop to kill three birds with one stone... 1) to game on; 2) to do anything I wanted it to do; and 3) to get back into my creative writing. I know that, with this style of key, I'll struggle to speed-type without correcting. But the benefits of this lovely laptop far outweigh any negatives - and even those are quite minor.

I don't know what the heck you guys are talking about. I type 3000 word essays and proposals for jobs and there is no issue with this keyboard at all. No skipped keys or unresponsive keys. In fact, my biggest issue with the keyboard would be getting used to it as the Toshiba keyboard seems to have a different feel to this one. :)

Maybe keyboard perfection came with the 200-point burn in test that PCMW does. :D
