Hello all,
Im looking to replace my dated P180
Im looking at a few websites, mythlogic and powernotebooks.com
Mythlogic has one 15.4" model - a "pollux 1613-A"
This outfitted with i7-4810, 2x4GB 1600 mhz, 880M, 840 evo 128GB SSD, 1TB 7200 RPM 32mb Cache, Killer n1202 network, and a BD-ROM drive is coming out to 2064.10.
Power Notebooks.com has 2 15.4" Monitors.
A NP8278, and a NP8268. From what i can tell picture wise the 8278 seems to be the equivalent of the 1613-A on mythlogic. Is that the case?
What is the difference between the 8278 and the 8268? They are priced equivalently at $2153, or $2143 respectively with the same set up.
Is the $100ish price difference expected between equivalent models through different sellers?
On the 17" Models, Mythlogic offer 1 non-SLI version, a 1713-A. This specced equivalently is 2265.85. Now Powernotebooks has many more models.
A NP9570, NP8298, NP8278, and NP9377. What are the difference between these models? Its near impossible to tell based on specs because they can be specced equivalently. Which of these is equivalent to the 1713A on myth?
What i am looking for is a replacement notebook, not a desktop replacement. My desktop is good and powerful, but i want something thats possible to play on my lap/in bed. Will the 17" allow for this or do i really need a 15"? Are there lapdesks that fit the 17" as well as a mouse?
What is the cooling situation on these? Can they all hold up without a cooler?
As far as alienware goes, is it really worth the ~$1000 premium? It astounds me that equivalent setups in the 17" models are that big of a price gap

The powernotebooks does infact have the OS (windows 8.1) checked and the price difference is still there -
Looks like the 58 supports two harddrives + two msata and the 68 supports one harddrive and two msata drives. The units themselves are built a bit differently too:

Some people prefer not to have a glowing touchpad. -
I wouldnt recommend gaming on your lap as it will surely block vents and cause extra heat. As for alienware I feel that alot of the mobey they charge is warranted due to build quality, but I also can now say that sager/clevo are well built and more then enough to handle most users. Honestly if you do game in bed at least get a lap board.

One thing I am noticing, is that Alienware Monitors seem to offer much higher levels of gamut. In the 90% range where that doesnt seem to be an option on the 17" Clevo -

On option I wish that Clevo/Sager had that I've only seen (recently) on Alienware is the HDMI input. This lets you play your xbox/ps on your laptop screen etc.

They had it in the past, but protections on outputs means its a little tricky to support.

The 90% glossy is only for the 17.3" I believe. Also, I happen to be one of the few that prefer glossy over matte, so it worked for me.

The NP9377 has the mobile cpu and SLI videocards Mythlogic 7313 equivelent
The NP8298 and NP8278 are the same as the Mythlogic 1713A and the 1713A Black. The case is either a gloss black or a matte black depending on your preference.
Vanished answered you on the 15 inch difference so I won't touch that.
Mythlogic uses the same clevo machines, but I do believe they customize their bio's to give you more options.
I can't think of a reason you'd want to pay the 1000 dollar difference for an alienware, but I'm a sager fan not alienware. Never liked their quality or their looks.
Check out sagernotebook.com too. They give you a nice highlight list showing the differences between the models. -

The NP9570 is a desk to desk machine and a car is the best way to move it around lol.
