what happened is like this
I've got 2 hard-drives 100gb sata installed
no RAID, both C: and D:
my music folder is located in D:
and everytime i want to optn the file,
com started to load very slowly
(like it will freeze every 5 seconds before it even open the file)
and so i thought i should format the D:
so i want to transfer my music to C: first,
reformat my D: and put the files back to the D:
however,
everytime i transfer, it just states;
'Error copying file or folder'
Cannot copy 'music':
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
now what![]()
Is there anything i can do to fix my D:
or dont tell me i can kiss all my songs goodbye as i just format it anyways?

First thing to do is always to run scandisk on the drives.
According to Microsoft, such problem may be related to the disk's cables -
my 9750 was initially sent to me with a faulty HD. I experienced similar errors and extremely slow read/write speeds. I RMA'd it to Sager and they swapped it out. worked just fine after that.
-
well, this is the 1st time this kind of thing has happened
so i dont know if its faulty HD
but i;ll be damned if i had to format my HD though
as for the scandisk,
how do i do that?
(I think i know how but just to be sure, could you provide me the specific steps) -
You right-click on your D: drive --> Properties --> Tools and should find it there
-
yeah did that
well, it hung 1/2way
then i had to manual shut down
will do it again,
hopefully it'll solve this problem
when it coems to step 4, com started to run very slowly
any other alternative?
(please dont suggest format) -
What is step 4? Deep surface scan?
It's not optimal to run it under Windows...better during the startup process
you could also try in safe mode -
at startup process
it just got stuck at 1%for like 1 hour
is that normal? -
i wanna hear gophn's opinion on this XD
surprisingly, this is the 1st time that it happened
and after about 1 year too, i dont know what went wrong
any other program i can use to perhaps fix it? -
bah screw this
i think its really spoilt -
do you have floppy reader?
-
yep
those A: right?
yes i do have the USB ones -
Yeah floppy readers are usually under A: but I mean: do you have a place on your computer to insert a floppy disk?
-
not on the laptop itself
i have to plug in the USB floppy drive
and then put in the floppy from there -
(forget about that, I was thinking about Win ME)
Is it XP or Vista? Do you have the WIndows CD?
You could start the computer with the CD and then go to the recovery console/repair
From the command line you can run scandisk (by typing chkdsk)
Before doing anything else, you must run a full scandisk..it's always the first thing to try to repair minor/major problems to hard disk/partition -
ive got both
but currently am using XP pro
i did that~
got stuck at 1% -
How long do you wait? Do you see the harddisk activity LED flashing?
-
around 2-3 hours
still stuck at 1%
i think its really dead
still under warranty though
but i dont know where to send it to -
Personally,I always repair my things even if it takes hours of work. My friend had a disk that wasn't recognized by the computer, under DOS we saw only 2mb of data (instead of 40gb), the data wasn't reguar data but really weird data, bad sectors were appearing constantly, etc.
After hours, I was able to bring back all his data from the dead disk so everything is possible...but if you don't want to work on it the easiest may be to ask for a new one, it's your choice -
well
i wish i could but i dont know how
on top of that, it just got stuck at 1%
i tried it again today
is there another way to fix it?
i hear weird noise as well from the hdd -
"Ultimate Boot CD" is a great thing to download and burn onto a bootable CD
it's a very complete suite of utilities to repair/diagnose hard disk, etc.
you could know for example if you have bad sectors on the disk
