I bought a sagernp2740 back in 2014. It was from xoticpc. It was very fast for a few months. Then after a bit, the battery had issues where you see the red x in the battery icon. Basically battery is no good. I then continued to use the laptop without replacing battery because i was out of the country and can't get replacement. I bought it from xoticpc and one could get replacement free for up to 1 year.

Well what i did was i bought a new battery directly through sager. Reason being through xoticpc, it would take much longer than expected. I got the new sager battery shipped to me and i went to computer shop where a person replaced it for me. You need to open up tons of screws to replace battery... something i cannot do. Well the battery was good for a few months. Then it had the same issue. It has that red X on the battery icon yet again. I contacted sager and they told me they had a replacement warranty... dont recall if it was 6 month or 1 year but since the one i bought was few months into it, they sent me replacement. I dont think i even had to pay for shipping... im not sure 100 percent but if i did it was just fedex shipping.

Well after few months yet again, my battery has went bad. I had wondered what could have caused this. The first time my battery went bad, i had wondered.. could it be because it was on a wooden table? Well i didnt think that could be it but maybe. The battery replacement i bought from sager eventually went bad after a few months. I found out that this could have happened because my laptop was on a table where there is like a cloth cover for the table and thus that is bad for the battery and would keep it hot etc. That was possible i thought. So when i got the replacement from sager, i made sure my laptop was on an actual desk where there is no table cover or anything and its a flat table. Well again after few months, battery has went bad.

I know batteries should last up to 1 year. But based on my experience with the sager np2740, each battery has seemed to last no more than a few months max.

Does that mean this laptop model battery is defective? This is the 3rd battery i got. The 2nd one i paid to buy from sager. The 3rd one was a replacement from sager. That means i can only be on battery for very little time because the battery wears out very quickly. So i have to be plugged in 100 percent. I like to know if anyone here with this sager np2740 model has this issue. I have no problem getting a new battery once a year... but not when its like this every few months. Also the battery is not cheap at all etc. Are there laptop models where battery always keep going out? I know this laptop is i7 quad core so could that be it?

I have not really heard of an issue with the batteries failing often really, how long is the battery holding a charge? What is the longest one has lasted?

The original battery was pretty good. I say 1 hour 45 minutes max. The one i bought from sager did not last that long. It was more like 1 hour 15 minute max. The replacement one was more like the same or 1 hour. However i do use programs that are battery intensive etc. What is strange about all this is when i first got the laptop, i saw the battery actually showed the percentage and also how many hours left. thus if 2 hours, it show 2 hour. The new one from sager didn't show at all and neither did the replacement. I was told that the original battery shows only the percentage and never how much hour and minute left. Im 100 percent positive it did. Most laptops show hour left and minute. When i first got the sager laptop from xoticpc, it did 100 percent. When the initial battery went bad, i dont recall exactly if it did show hour left but pretty sure it did. Before battery went bad, it showed percentage and hour left.

As of now, the battery does not last more than 25 minutes it seems at the very max. It might even go out at 60 percent so maybe 10 minutes max. So when computer shuts off, i have to plug in again and then start up computer... then it says do you want to restart computer normal or safe mode etc. After that, it restarts and you notice its at 60 percent. All the batteries seem to last for around 3-5 months.

Do you know why this is the case? I'm starting to wonder could it be because its an i7 quad core laptop. since most laptops are not quad core, could this be it? i do know quad core uses lot of energy etc and im usually on power or high energy mode etc. Thanks.

Well, 1-2 hours on Max power is probably what you would get out of a battery IMO, But if its only lasting 25 min or so, I would say battery is defective yes.

Sounds like a manufacturing error, this (too few Wh's is one, too). Can't be coincidence if all of them wear out so soon. If you still have one of the old, dead ones; send a pm if you're willing to ship it to me (will pay shipping expenses). Can have a look at the cells + firmware and maybe we can find out what the problem is. Might very well be too much skimming on the capacity, but perhaps there's some room to improve that.
