I heard Sager laptops are very good and with some serious research, like a month of looking at each individual companies laptops, I decided to go with Sager. I chose and customized the NP5797 to be an excellent laptop for gaming. The question is, however, how long does Sager take to ship the laptop, it has been around 3 weeks. I know that it takes some time to build the laptop, especially since the nVidia 280m gtx was out for around a week.
I've received the email that it should be shipped this week, but no confirmation on when it shipped, or even an authorization for the laptop on my credit card. I'm not too worried, but just want to be sure that this laptop is on its way. Its very hard to play World of Warcraft on a HP Mini 1000 w/Intel Atom processor!![]()
Also, I've been reading some reviews on these notebooks. How often is there a problem with dead or partially-lit pixels? The forums all seemed to be on older (not by much) laptops. I didn't get the no dead pixel guarantee since I didn't have the $200 for it. I can deal with one or a couple of dead pixels, preferably none though; but the partially-lit ones would bother me.
Appreciate your time reading my concerns, please let me know.

I am considering buying the NP5797, Please let me know how it preforms when you get it, benchmarks and stuff if you can. The GTX 280m is going to kick butt..
-
I'll take your post in stages.
1. Did you know that the 5797 has been a pre-order for the last month. The units weren't set to start shipping until early April, so if you ordered three weeks ago, you were just on the list. The 280Ms just started coming in, so shipping has just started this week.
2. Dead-pixels happen, but they're not common so I wouldn't worry about it too much. That said, having a stuck pixel or two is always a possibility with an LCD. -
-

Also received my notice today that mine shipped Wednesday, should arrive Tuesday.
-
I ordered mine on Tuesday and received the invoice yesterday telling me it had been shipped out on the 9th. Says it's to arrive here on the 15th (I live in B.C. Canada) but I'm guessing it'll take longer at the border to go through customs.
They should send you a confirmation email along with a UPS tracking order, if not just email them or call, they'll respond to you quite quickly. -
Benchmark Benchmark Benchmark Benchmark Benchmark !!!
-
mine should be here thursday
-
Not received that confirmation, however did receive the confirmation that the order shipped. Since the only option was Priority, should arrive in about a week. I'm at a FPO, AP address overseas. Mail/Packages usually arrive really fast here.
-
Still waiting...why does it say that after a week, it is still in Walnut, CA? Hopefully this is not being held somewhere in a warehouse. The priority shipping cost way too much for that.
-
USPS isnt the best with tracking updates.
you can contact your vendor to see if there was a holdup. -
It usually says the item is still at the original distribution terminal up until the last two days until it is to arrive.
Once it gets to your local delivery point (where they load the trucks) then all of a sudden the rest of the timeline fills in and it says out for delivery.
Then you go insane the rest of the day waiting on them to show up since it is a signature confirmation delivery.
Same thing happened with mine and is A-typical. Happened with the 9262 I bought and several other packages. -
It showed up today. Unfortunately, I was emailed 2 hours after the post office was closed
. Will have to pick it up tomorrow.
-
The time to worry is when you see the box has been beat to death... before then... lots of deep breaths. ^_^
-
However the final test remains, to make sure that all the hardware works. I couldn't take a look at it since I am working...
So far there was no physical damage that I could see. I'm sure it's going to be fine.
I had ordered it prior to their special of including the game Crazy Machines. They went ahead and included the CD for it. -
I think you'll have to install the physX drivers and software off Sager's site to really see whatever they are getting on about with CrazyMachines.
Pretty much they did the same with mine. -
Didn't order the physix card, been reading reviews about it and heard that it wasn't worth getting at the time. That only mirrors edge and a couple of other games had support for it.
------------------------------------------
Typed from my new Sager NP5797!
------------------------------------------ -
any nvidia card post 8xxx series with 256mb+ ram can do physx, so install the driver from nvidia, and let it roll.
-
Ok, everything arrived and worked. That is definitely a good laptop. May put Vista Home Premium on it though, to get DirectX10 support. Also to play some of those games that were only capable of Vista. There wasn't too many made since those companies took a big hit for stopping support on Xp too fast. They ended up re-instating their support for Xp.
Another concern that would make me switch to Vista is that the OEM version of Xp installed is only 32-bit. With 4GB of RAM, it only can pick up 3GB. Probably isn't a big deal, but I might want to have the ability to utilize all of it. Not 100% sure if the processor is 64-bit though. You would think that it would have to be in this day and age, but I could be wrong; will have to email Sager. Anyone know how I can come across a copy of Vista that is 64-bit? It should already be on the same DVD as the 32-bit right? I know that XP's 64-bit was badly bugged, so that's out of the equation. -
When did you order your laptop and which site did you use? Ordered my from torquepc early March and still haven't gotten shipping notification. Starting to me off!
-
Your unit must have just missed the first batch then...
I ordered mine March 16 via PCT and it didn't ship till April 8th. -
While we could rant on PCT, I have to say this sounds more like a matter of not having enough stock. We knew there would be limited quantities of the first batch and it was said as much once it got closer to April.
But if he ordered the same time as me (roughly) I don't see why he got left out, unless he missed it by 1 or 2 units or there was something special order involved.
Scientific, do read the thread there though, and you could read my 5797 review that's floating around in which I discuss the same notification issue you're having. After that you can decide if you still want to keep your business with PCT.
Xotic or Powernotebooks would be who'd I'd recommend right now if you are interested in switching. -
XoticPC FTW
-
All I wanted was the barebones chassis, and Rjtech hooked me up without any problems.
-
But they are no longer in pre-order, so you should receive a shipping notification as soon as your payment processes with PCTorque.
Although, customer experience with Sager straight up was a different experience. But everything went through, got my laptop and am happy. -
Something I would advise everyone on, is that Sager requires you to have the laptop shipped back and it arrived at their facility by the end of the 30 days. If you're going to return it that is.
So don't go waiting till your last week to make up your mind. If you're on the
east coast it's going to take 4-5 days ground. 3 day select is almost $70.
DBAN alone, takes about 70 hours to do a high security wipe on the 320 GB drive.
Just some notes since I'm having to go through this now. -
Why? What happened to your laptop? -
Please read the end of my review thread. It's being returned.
I don't want to clutter up all the 5797 threads with my reasons. -
Ok, I read the post in the thread you submitted. Best of luck to you. -
Keep this thread going. I ordered mine on April 24th...Still waiting...I seen on another site that they were suppose to get some more Nvidia GTX 280m cards in around May 8th...Sucks waiting like this...I can't imagine how you guys felt waiting 1 to 2 months!!! Anybody knows anyhting new about ship dates post it...Thanks
-
Not too much new about them. They usually they take around 1-1/2 weeks to build, then about 2 weeks to ship. If you ordered from Sagernotebook.com, they don't charge your card until the day that they ship your laptop. Pre-order really did suck, but getting it was worth all of the waiting. What site did you order it from?
-
PCTorque...My card was charged the minute i ordered
-
It should be a similar process, just without the pre-order and the charge when shipped part.
I'm OCONUS (Outside Continental U.S.), so things are shipped to my FPO address and take a little longer to reach me. -
PCTorque's customer service is OK...I have no complaints about that...I just wish everybody didn't have to wait like that, especially when it says item ships in 2 to 3 days...I think they should have at least stated that the GTX 280m cards were on backorder on their website...But I guess good things come to those who wait!!!
...I'm outside U.S. right now too...I'm in China for work reasons...But i'm still having it shipped to my house in Kentucky...I'll be home in late june...I'm debating on having my Mother go to my house and have it shipped here for me...What do you guys think about that?...do you think the packing is worthy of International shipping?
-
Yes. I too work overseas, in Japan though, and the box wasn't even dented when it showed up. They definitely packed it well.
It was sent via USPS Priority Mail.
-
well China's customs can be a big problem sometimes...I'm just afraid they will hold it up...And they are just as bad as Uncle Sam always wanting their cut...I'm sure if they see that it is a laptop, they will want their taxes on it...I know i will kill me if i know it's sitting at home and i'm stuck here without it...so what the heck, i probably will go ahead and pay the tax
what is another 100.00 anyway?
...Ya i have had things shipped here via USPS and arrived unscaved.
-
I placed my order with Torque PC March 13...still waiting. I did get several "upgrades":
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme (QX9300)
(4GB) DDR3 1066MHz (2 SODIMMs) (2048MB x 2048MB)
Intel Turbo Memory (Robson) 4096MB (4GB)
320GB l 7200RPM I SATA II (16MB Cache Buffer)
Panasonic UJ-120 2X BD-R/8X DVD+-R / 2.4X + DL BLU-RAY R
Microsoft Windows VISTA ULTIMATE (64 Bit Installed)
Hope I get mine with the next "batch" of shipments or might have to go with something else... -
They show up pretty quick. It should be a short wait. The laptop is well worth it when you receive it. I would keep the order with them, but monitor it to make sure there is progress.
-
I'd advise everyone to avoid Torque PC, even my worse enemies. Not only are they unresponsive and have the worse customer service, after having to wait over 2 months for the laptop, I'll have to wait another week because those bast ards shipped my notebook via UPS GROUND!! Even after I paid $119 for 2-day air!!
-
Ordered mine from Sager's online site. A couple days later got a notice saying it would be delayed due to graphics card (280M). Didn't get another update when the delays increased by a few more weeks, but they did respond within 24 hours to my email.
I also, via email, upgraded my processor. Sager's online ordering doesn't process changes, so I had to rely on assurances from the sales department.
My credit card was not charged until the computer shipped. Arrived within 3 days.
Unforunately, there was a problem with the screen - a red vertical line across the whole screen.
I called Sager's tech support (number conviently given in the About this Computer section of the main properties). After a short discussion, they issued an RMA number and said the turnaround time would likely be 5-7 days, assuming they just replace the screen. Shipped back today, we'll see how long it takes.
Apart from the screen issue, I've been very happy with the new machine. Hooked up to an external HD monitor and played some LOTRO, EVE, L4D all in gloriously high detail settings at 1080p. Most impressive was the excellent heat dissapation - the thing didn't get above "warm" even after multi-hour gaming sessions. -
The monitor issue with your laptop is definitely a rare case. It is good to hear that they are being prompt on helping you out with the issue. Sager has pretty good customer service.
I had the whole delay on the 280M as well. I ordered mine in late march and it didn't finish building until around the second week of April. Then shipped with no problems. I was surprised to find that USPS did not track it beyond just the major Post Offices that it arrived at. My order said that it was in Walnut, CA for 2 weeks, lol. Come to find out though, it was on its way overseas to my duty station the entire time.
When I got it, it didn't have any problems. All components worked. I had it built with Windows Xp Pro, but I think that I am going to put Windows Vista Ultimate Edition on there, just for the added DirectX support for gaming. DirectX 9.0c is good no doubt, but DX10 enhanced how some things are drawn.
I'm not too much a fan of UAC (User Account Control) always popping up, so the release of Windows 7 will be nice. But for now, I can either ignore or disable it.
Here's an article of some of the features that they are getting rid of during the change.
http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/10things/?p=536 -
not worth going to Vista just for DX10... since most games perform better and look near the same in DX9 mode
Windows 7 is slated for end of this year... that might be worth it since UAC is trainable. -
Its not just for DX10, but Win Vista Ultimate that I have is a 64-bit edition, so it would be able to utilize all 4GB of RAM that I have.
-
Still you're probably right, Xp runs well, even on the 3GB. I have a copy of Vista Ultimate sitting on the side that I haven't used, lol.
-
I have dual boot and XP still performs well for me... so I rarely ever boot up the Vista Ultimate.
