    Hi

    I own a Sager NP 8150 which I bought in Apr 2010.

I have a question which I hope can be answered. When the battery is inside the laptop (I normally take it out while using) and everything is shut off (including the mains), the battery indicator is still lighted up (orange light),

is this normal? Is there anyway to turn it off?

Reason being, I am intending to bring my laptop(with battery inside) overseas, and I do not want my laptop to overheat unnecessarily.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

its not a good idea to remove the battery while it is powered on.
remove battery first and then power on with mains power.
if you want to run it on battery then have it plugged in and then power on.

download battery care from my signature below to monitor your battery. you could well of damaged something removing it while its powered on.

Sorry I think I was not so clear in my previous post.

I have never tried removing a battery while the laptop is on. :) (sorry if i did give that impression)

What i mean is, i usually play without the battery inside. However when everything is off (including the mains) and I insert in the battery, the battery indicator of the laptop gives an orange glow and it does not go off.

Is this normal? Because my past Sager laptops does not light up even when I slot in the battery pack with everything off.

    Many thanks

what happens when you plug the mains in and leave it plugged in for an hour or so. does the light then turn green.
hover your mouse over the battery in the taskbar and see if it says charging.

i think the light staying on just means its running on battery and if you plug into the mains the battery light will go green

Yes, it does all of the above that you have described when the laptop is plugged into the mains.

However, when I shut down the laptop and turn off the mains, the orange glow still remains indicating that my battery is inserted....

Is this a normal phenomenon? Should the orange glow be there even when everything and I mean everything is turned off?

My 2 previous sager laptops and my Asus gaming laptop do not behave this way :(

The orange glow usually means its charging the battery. Does it stay on the whole time or turn off after a little while.

mine stays on for about 5-10 seconds. if it stays on longer i guess its holding a charge longer than normal or the battery is somehow leaking power.

With a 9150 the light goes out immediately once disconnected from the mains. Odd.

But the battery cannot be charging because the mains are totally turned off. The orange light even remains there for 40 minutes after everything thing is off.

It only goes off when I remove the battery pack.

    thanks

Yes, this is what I thought should happen to.

In fact, I had no issues with my Sager NP8690 and Asus G73. The battery indicator light immediately goes off when the mains are turned off.

Is there any software to fully discharge the battery? Or only via the manual way to drain the battery?

Does the problem lie with the battery itself? Or the laptop?

    Many thanks

Go to the clevo bios sticky and then follow the link to take you to older systems at the top of the page.
