Yes not every program ddetects the vram right. Speed rating is more important than size when overclocking.

I checked again with the Nvidia control panel and GPUz, it does indeed have 8gb vram. Very strange that both Intel XTU and Aida would detect the ram incorrectly. Does anyone know why this is?

8gb cards are fairly new and neither of those programs are specialised to cope with GPUs.

Great news! People in class today were throwing nuts(for bolts) around in class and on of them striked my laptop screen. It's got a small chip in it now with dead pixels. Great. So im going to contact Sager tonight and see what they have to say regarding replacing it, as I have the dead pixel and warranty on it, but I'm probably up the creek because what happened probably counts a "accidental damage". SO, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a replacement screen? Since Sager probably won't fix it. I'd prefer an authentic factory screen, so if anyone know of any outlets/suppliers I could order one from, that'd be great. [IMG]
While I realize this is a small chip, I am doing a lot of photoshoping/illustrating/video editing and I can't live with dead pixels

    That should not be covered.

You can contact Sager or your reseller about a replacement screen. Or you can find one on ebay. Just be careful if you opt to buy one yourself. Many are sold as "compatible" replacements so you get whatever is in stock.

Yah that wont be covered under any warranty. Sager will still replace it but at a cost, contact your reseller and they can help get that set up. You can also install HWInfo to get the exact model number of the screen and try to find a replacement. As mentioned by deadsmiley, contact any seller of that screen to make sure you will get that exact model if you order it.

It's a standard 40 pin lvds panel, there are many options such as the 95% gamut AUO panels (v4 and v7).

My own personal experience is from UK suppliers, any exact panel of those revisions should be fine. Just be aware of people hiding the fact they are selling "compatible" displays which are just any similar connector panel they have in stock.

I just replaced my screen last night. It was a very easy job. Just can't be ham fisted about it.

Pretty much, it's certainly easier than removing a motherboard for instance.

What screen did you end up buying, and from who? Did you have a guide to replace the screen? Or is that really not necessary?

My screen is a 17.3". I had a matte finish and after 6 months I grew weary of the grainy screen. Color and contrast were very good so I opted for the same screen with a glossy finish.

I bought it used from ebay for about $100 shipped. It came out of a Asus I think.

    I had: Chi Mei N173HGE-L11

    I bought: Chi Mei N173HGE-L21 REV.C1 17.3

There is a very good guide here in the Clevo section.

Hi guys. I have a question concerning cooling system of this book. My power mode in windows on high performance and my cpu (after cpu-z) just jump from low frequencies to max (3.5GHz). The problem is even when i surf the Internet cooling system became active (when cpu temp reach 50C) every, say 3 min.
Btw i didn't install Intel MEI (i don't think that will pose the problem). All the components are well identified with chipset driver.

And the other question is: If i update from gtx860m to gtx980m i will need to purchase new heat sink set + some new pads. Or just some new thermal pads?

    Thank you.

    Hello!
I bought my NP8258-S a month ago and it's fantastic!
The only problem is that every time my computer goes to sleep, the headphone jack does not work after turning the computer back on!
The way I've gone about temporarily fixing this issue is resetting the values in BIOS, which seems work, but I would rather not go through all that just to get my headphones to work again. The speakers seem unaffected. I'm not sure if this is a common problem with this unit or if it's a driver problem.
    Any help/tips are appreciated! :)

    Thank you!

    Grab the latest hotkey driver.

Totally UNINSTALL the hotkey application, then install the new hotkey application.

    This should fix the issue.

If it doesn't, there's a hp.dll in the hotkey directory, rename it to something like hp_backup.dll and that'll get rid of the dissapearing/reappearing headphone issue.

Hotkey controls the headphone amplifier so it is necessary for the audio to work. Including the steps mentioned by Ashen-Shugar, I also recommend you check init_headphone.exe in the Hotkey folder as this is the executable that activates the amplifier.

Does anyone know how to turn off the automatic brightness? The screen seems to adjust the brightness/contrast/colors depending on what is on the screen and it bothers my eyes at times.
    Any help appreciated!

In the advanced power settings you can turn off the "Enable adaptive brightness".

    Sorry for the late reply.

Despite disabling the adaptive brightness on all the power settings, the screen keeps adjusting the brightness.
Is there another way to disable this?

If you are in Optimus mode, go to the intel control pannel and under the power, click on the battery pane.. Disable display power saving technology..

I'm in the Intel Graphics control panel and see the power settings, but there isn't anything regarding disabling a power setting. I'm also not sure how to get into Optimus mode.

All except the .NET framework 4.5.2. The .NET framework is currently reported to have a problem when using a tablet and Corel Painter (which I use).
