Hey all, first up mad props to Justin W from XoticPC for getting my very shiney 8662 to me before I hit the sandbox! After doing the norm of updating Windows and installing anti-virus software, ran some initial tests. Here are me notebook specs (all stock, cept for the updates for Windows):

Next up are a few RTS games (Company of Heroes and Dawn of War II), but so far all I can say is WOW. Coming from an Acer Travelmate 8204, this thing is a mini-beast. Mini because the title of Beast belongs to my desktop. Thanks again to the folks at XoticPC for delivering the goods, and thanks to the folks here for helping me choose a very good notebook. If there are any questions I can answer, let me know!

I am expecting my sexy new NP8662 tomorrow or wednesday from Xotic too, so I am getting excited
Thanks, these are exactly the kind of benchmarks I like to see
I am still trying to figure mine out, in terms of backups and stuff so I can install all the games i like, let them run a muck with my registry and then just restore
Thanks for the tests mate!! -

XoticPC sends a recovery disk (OS) and a utility disk (Drivers) with the notebook. Also, in Vista, you can create a full back up of your computer. So you're covered if you want to let your programs run a muck! -
Those benchmarks are great!
I also expect to receive my NP8662 some time this week and I just can't wait. I have already been waiting 1 month since I ordered it anyway (UK). I also canceled my first order which was the original NP8660 when I heard about this new one and I am glad that I did.
For backups, I tend to completely bypass the recovery CD as well as deleting any recovery partitions although it is a good idea to do a sector by sector backup of the recovery partition just in case you need it for future use or sell the laptop.
I then use a tiny program called Drive Snapshot along with a Bart PE bootable CD. -
Completed CS:S Video Stress Test (for you CS:S nuts like me). Wow.
-
Haha, CS:S isn't very demanding these days. I don't believe the stress test map even has an HDR pass.
-
If you're big on the Relic RTS, the Q9000 is the better processor for you.
-
Nice numbers great job dude!
-
Thanks for the tips lads
Im not scared when it comes to reinstalling vista and the Vista install disks come with the computer so thats not a problem. I am just trying to figure out how to do all the backups and partitioning. I dont have the greatest internet speed so I am thinking to backup completely the vanilla updated Vista before installing my favorite programs
Is vista default tools better than what I can get from Acronis for partitioning and backups?
I am skeptical these days when it comes to vista extra tools. -
comparing to 9800m gts you guys remember how much fps people get with it for the same settings at crysis and cod 4 ?
thx -
i see that you are using it dx 10 mode, how is the benchmark when it is dx 9 mode. Im talking about eh crysis benchmark.
-
exact same laptop with the same mods as i ordered earlier this week. i am excited to get it soon.
how long did xoticpc take to get it to you? -
71 gto, it took a little over 3 weeks (mad props to Justin W) but it is due to a supply issue from Sager. Took some time but well worth the wait! Money well spent.
-
Aww if mine takes as long as yours did it should be shipping by now, *scratches head.* They must be selling quickly.
Although, the Windows 7 RC1 comes out on the 5th I believe...now that would be convenient -
I have already been waiting a month for mine but that's the UK.
-
Also waiting. Apparently there were some issues getting the new video cards from Nvidia. Hopefully the first week of May ETA is accurate.
-
Great benches and temps. Thanks for taking the time to post these!

I am planning to buy the Sager NP 8662
I have some questions concerning these Specs, if they are good or not.
15.4" WUXGA+ (1920x 1200)
nVidia Quadro FX 2700M
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
4GB RAM
4GB Intel Turbo Memory 2.0
320GB 7200 RPM
Mainly the Laptop will be used for gaming and modeling like using Solidworks, Matlab, LabView, etc.
So my question is the specs above, will the 1920x 1200 add too much stress on the GPU Quadro FX 2700M that it might cause it to overheat? or maybe the temperatures to hit around 80C+?
What about the Quadro FX 2700M is it famous to be a overheating GPU? If someone can provide me with benchs I would be happy! -
Those specs are the best you can get for a 15.4" system as a 3D mobile workstation.
there should be no overheating issues at all with that setup. -
What if I want to concentrate more on gaming then actually CAD programs. Is it better to get the 260M over the Quadro FX 2700M?
-
But if you want to game, the GTX 260M will perform around 25% (maybe 30%) faster than the Quadro 2700M. -
Ooookay, I am seriously looking at getting this notebook now. Initially, it was between this and the Asus G51, but i think sager's blown me away now.
Great benchmarks! Thanks for sharing! -
If you aren't TOO picky about Resolution, You can run Crysis at Very High for everything except for motion blur (High) and World Detail (High) and resolution at I forget what I have it at, and the game still looks great (res wise) and matches about the same FPS as the OP benchmark.
The highest res is a nice increase though, but I deal with it.
Oh and, FarCry2 is running at all highest settings (no antiAliasing) and it i 25fps lowest.
My processor is the P8700. -

@ bviperz i noticed you upgraded your cpu to 2.66ghz what was your reason? im an rts/rpg person but dont want the quad b/c of batt life. so not sure if i should get stock or upgrade like you. What was your reasoning?
-
@ Gophn [inkow you made this staement a while back but if you do see this:
"The Quadro would do better in the OpenGL environments... especially in programs like SolidWorks that requires it to unlock all features.
But if you want to game, the GTX 260M will perform around 25% (maybe 30%) faster than the Quadro 2700M."
you said 25% better for vid games, but what % worse is the 260m to the workstation card in 3d rendering? i wanted to use the sager as a hybrid for both games and rendering. -
Drake,
Went with the P9600 for the price/performance ratio and power efficiency. I too play rts/rpg games with this laptop, I use my desktop for perfomance/eye-candy in fps games. -
Hey Folks,
Anyone care to comment on the battery life of the 8662. I'm trying to buy a good notebook and I can't afford the 8690. I sure would like i7 Nevertheless, it has abysmal baterylife... -
I have the P9700. On power saving mode and screen brightness at 50% I can get a almost exact 2hrs before I hit 10% (auto dims) and another 15min until it hits 3% and hibernates while surfing the net and what have you.

Nice benches dude
id run 3DMarkVantage if i were you 3DMark06 is rediculously CPU dependant, Vantage will give you a much more accurate reading of the gaming power of your kit as that (from what iv read) is what your into more than CAD etc -
thank you for the initial benches OP. great stuff
