Hello all! Has anyone here had their Synaptics touchpad just flat out stop working multiple times every day, with no discernible reason listed in Windows Event Viewer? The touchpad is left with basic arrow movement and one finger regular scroll function, but nothing else....none of the clicking is enabled, no chiral scrolling, etc. I have tried restarting the SynTPEnh programs, clean reinstalls of the Synaptics drivers both from Sager and Synaptics, clean Windows installs multiple times followed by driver reinstalls, disabling and/or removing or not installing the Kaspersky Internet Suite I use, looking through every Windows Event Viewer log generated until my eyes bleed, etc. but nothing fixes the problem except a complete reboot of the system. It is beyond annoying and disruptive to reboot the system multiple times while I am using it. Trying to use the command line to restart the service fails with a message that Ithere is no such service name, though it is clearly listed in Services! ARRRGGGG!!! What the hay!? Does anyone know a different service name to restart when this happens besides SynTPEnh, or a different command besides net start? I mean this is so annoyying because I am an advanced user/builder, and I have never encountered this. My next step is to disable driver signing checking and reinstalling the drivers, then going from there, but again, the driver is not what seems to stop. It seems like the software, although no separate installation file for just the software is provided in either Sager's download or in Synaptics's. I guess I am going to have to extract all the files from the setup file to see what I have in there and install things one at a time as well. Any other ideas?

Did you install all the drivers from the disc. There is no bloatware on there so do not skip any. Sometimes their drivers are very finicky and rely on others, so because of that make sure all are installed including the Audio drivers. There seems to sometimes be a correlation between them.

Sigh...Hutsady, no offense, but yes, yes, a thousand times yes.....I installed all of the Sager supplied drivers and software, in the order listed in their supplied user manual....many, many times over now....as well as over and over again with many fresh Windows installations.
I really need to hear from anyone who has had this problem (there appear to be many if you Google the problem), and I would love to hear what they did to fix the issue, if they were able to. If no one has fixed the issue, I would love to hear from anyone who has some much more in-depth troubleshooting steps to suggest....some registry entries to edit....turn off Windows driver signing verification (I am actually testing that one)....which device IDs have shown up in Windows Event Viewer for anyone who has also experienced this....any totally interesting and way beyond basic suggestions that anyone has that may fix this problem.
So far in my theorizing, it appears that the SynTPEnh software is being shut down by something. Possibly either heat or Windows or faulty hardware. I use my laptop on a cooler at all times, so perhaps not heat (and nothing else is shutting down), but I won't rule it out. Windows is not showing that it disables the software, but that does not mean anything at all with Windows. However, why would Windows let the software run for sometimes several hours and THEN shut it down? Hmmmmm (scratches head). Interestingly, if I try to install the latest Synaptics driver suite from the Synaptics site, the installation fails until I disable the driver checking. So, I then wonder if the drivers on the Sager site, and on the provided CD both have some kind of issue with the signing of the supplied drivers. But again, why would they then install at all? And they do install. I am currently testing the drivers supplied at the Clevo site instead. They show to be the same, but you never know what will finally work when troubleshooting computers.
As far as faulty hardware, I doubt that, though I will not rule it out either. People have been having trouble with Synaptics drivers and software since about 2010 based on my Google search. In fact, they all have the same problem that I have, but they have it on Sagers, Acers, and many other brands as well. So, I lean towards NOT a hardware issue. Besides, the touchpad works just fine when I completely uninstall all Synaptics drivers and software. It is just hard to use because the glide feature of Synaptics software is vital to this particular touchpad.
So anyway, Hutsady. I don't mean to be rude. I have just spent too many years being asked the most basic questions over and over again, and it just wears on a gal when you have spent as much time working on tech as I have. I do appreciate that you tried to help though. -
I posted in another thread, but install the Sager touchpad software for your model for the OS you selected, once it's installed, go to the device manager and DELETE all the pointer devices on your laptop.
Reboot, then let windows choose the drivers (which should be the synaptic drivers) and have it install them.
Windows sometimes gets it in its head to dual-load drivers for trackpads. The trackpad software and the windows internal pointer/mouse drivers, and they conflict with each other and hang competing for dominance. Sometimes they play ok with each other, sometimes they blow up and eat each other's faces.
Sounds like you're getting some face eating.
It's what I'd attempt first at any rate. -
This is an old thread but I have the same model and same problem and it's driving me up the freaking wall. If you are still around, did you happen to find a solution? BTW, before anyone says its faulty hardware, I seriously doubt it. Yes, I'm not a some computer guru but I've been around long enough to know the difference between a software/bug and an intermittent hardware issue.
