Is the Sager NP2090 the same as the Compal IFL90? Because I found the Sager for at least $75 cheaper, yet it is about the same (if not better) in terms of specs. I also noticed that the Compal and Sager do not have glossy screens for WSXGA+, yet the WXGA screen is glossy. However, since I prefer the 8600GT with 512MB, I'm wondering: is the WXGA+ glossy? Because it has an 8600 w/512MB, but on the order site, only the WSXGA+ with matte screen is able to be customized with the 9 cell battery. Someone please help me out!![]()

The thing with the screens is that they do not have a sufficient quantity of the WXGA+ Screens. They had to go back to the matte screens for the time being. If you like matte I suggest you get one now because when they have sufficient quantities they are going to switch back to the glossy. If you want the WXGA+ in glossy you will have to wait...how long...we don't know yet.
And yes the Sager 2090 is the same as the IFL90. -
- Yes they are the same laptops, I hear the IFL90 costs a bit more because of the better warranty.
- The glossy/matte issue is a Sager thing, where the first shipments in WSXGA have matte screens (don't know why, but that's how it is). I think they're gonna make them glossy afterwards or offer a choice (personally, I prefer matte because I hate glare, but whatever).
- The WSXGA requires a 9-cell battery because of the amount of pixels that need to be lit as compared to the normal WXGA version. -
Justin at Xotic told me that when the WXGA+ come in, they will all be glossy. That's not a guarantee though....
Also, Sager won't be carrying the WXGA+, it will be powernotebooks and xotic as far as I know -
I thought they all had 9 cells, I'm confused.
-
what's the difference in warranty?
besides powernotebooks and xoticpc, any other resellers? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Ok, let's straighten this out a bit:
1. WSXGA+ (1680x1050) are Matte for now, and may or may not switch to glossy later. This will stay the same whether from Sager, PowerNotebooks.com or Xoticpc.
2. Sager will not carry the WXGA+ (1440x900) resolution. However PowerNotebooks.com and Xoticpc will and it will be glossy as is the WXGA (1280x800).
3. The different versions will come standard with either the 9 cell or 6 cell batteries as advertised on the various sites...but it has nothing to do with the amount of pixels that need to be lit. It just has to do with the package each System Builder is putting together.
4. The biggest difference in the warranties is that Sager comes standard with a 1 year warranty with the option to upgrade to 3 years while the others come standard with 3 year warranties, and the shipping method in the unlikely event you have to return it for warranty repair. Sager pays 3 Day Shipping both ways and PowerNotebooks.com and Xoticpc pay Next Business Day shipping both ways. If you are in the West this is not such a big thing, but from the Mid-West to the East Coast it will mean the difference between 2 days in transit and 4-6 days in transit...now that might be worth a few dollars to some.
5. Sager also does not offer 24/7 DOMESTIC tech support while PowerNotebooks.com does on both its PowerPro and Sager sales, and Xoticpc does on its branded laptops.
6. Actually, your specs can be better than the Sager since they all offer Arctic Silver 5 standard (if it says otherwise just call) but Sager does not offer the faster Seagate 120GB 7200.2 hard drive, and does not offer Corsair memory. All other specs are the same.
Did I miss anything? -
Arctic Silver 5...is it worth it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007
is this the same one i saw somewhere going for $50? -
From what I've done with it in desktops I believe so, you really have no issues, and over time..... still no issues. The folks that make AS really put a lot of effort into making it work so well you dont notice it
Also, with xoticpc its free, and if you call powernotebooks its...... well call powernotebooks and Donald can tell you -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Is it worth what??? It is standard...or free if you just call.
Even at $50 it is worth it to keep your laptop running about 11-22 degrees F cooler, more comfortable to use, quieter because the fans don't come on as often, spin up as high or stay on as long, and you get better battery life because of less fan action. -
-
hm are xotic and powernotebooks the only resellers?
and when for sure are the glossy screens coming in for WSXGA+? -
-
I let them change mine to the matte. I have a glossy on my first laptop and a matte on my Samsung desktop. Even though at first the glossy seems better, I prefer the matte. I just hope the Samsung laptop screen is as nice as nice as their desktop monitors.
-
well i just want to know who sells them and where i can get a glossy screen, just because i prefer glossy
-
I dont know if anyone has the glossies at the moment, the first shipment of WXGA were but the next shipment may not be. I had heard the WXGA+ that Xotic and powernotebooks were going to sell would be glossy, hopefully one of them will pop in and let you know more.
-
what about a list of resellers?
-
The Clevo buyers' guide might be of some use to you.
-
The sager is actually a compal rebadge, but I see no reason why the clevo guide wouldn't work. Well, maybe sager.com or something...
-
but the np2090 is a compal IFL90....so a clevo guide might not work.
-
In the end, they are all kind of the samething aren't they? I mean Compal and Clevo have comparable quality, and they are essentially for the majority using all the same parts, so it might work.
The Compal is a little more expensive though isn't it? -
-
you can get the same thing for the sager, because it doesnt come standard with the laptop.
-
The ones I know of in the US are:
xoticpc.com
powernotebooks.com
sagernotebooks.com (can buy Sagers through the first 2 also)
rjtech.com (not listed, but I heard they will sell the barebones)
gen-x-pc.com (dont know much about them)
There was one other that I saw, they just put it on their site, but I dont recall who it is. You can also check the Compal faq to see the list on there. -
http://www.discountlaptops.com/ (Great price)
,
http://www.pctorque.com/
both sell the Sager np2090
Gen-X-PC.com sells the IFL90, same model, they have many satisfied customers. I would check them out.
They also offer great discounts: http://www.gen-x-pc.com/notebook_discount.htm -

has anyone noticed that when you configure the NP2090 on PCTorque you get free turbo memory, free OS and a free carrying case?
Seemed strange that turbo memory is not extra charge, but I think i'll take advantage of this tomorrow.. -
I did not notice that.
-
That...(PCTorque)....is a really sweet deal. But there is no way they're selling that at cost, is there?
-
Remember to include taxes and shipping when comparing. (Just a general reminder, not to you in particular, but in general.) -
-
Yeah and on PCTorque fro some reason you can get the T7700 cheaper than the T7500...
-
Huh? I thought maybe their web site was buggy... with Xerxes' last post, now I really think their site is buggy. Those of you who have not yet ordered might want to get in on the action before they fix it.
-
Too late, its been fixed. The bluetooth and carrying case are still included in price, but turbo mem is 35 and the OS prices are now matching everyone else's.
-
gosh darnit, ballocks

Please edit it or stand ready for some bad rep points. -
Now you've posted that language as well Donald!
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, and I apologize for that. I have edited mine to eliminate the offensive language.
I notice that he was online when I made that post, and he has chosen not to edit it, so I guess it is time to go to step 2. -
Ok... um on the xotic site... I configured both the IFL90 and the 2090 to the same specs... even upgraded both warranties to the 3year accidental damage so they'd be the same (as far as I can see anyway)... and the 2090 is almost $200 cheaper.
and the only difference I can see is that the IFL90 gives the option to specify Corsair...
is that... right? I mean they're the same computer right? why such the difference? and on the same site no less -
Are you sure the warranties are the same? By default the Sager will have 3 years labor but only 1 year parts. Xotic has 3 years for both, and that should be most of the price difference, if not all. List what you want for specs and I can look.
-
yup, upgraded them both to 3 year accidental damage showed them as having all the same stuff. neither mentioned anything about shipping.
-
Ahh that explains it. The Sager upgrade cost from 3yr labor/1 year parts is $293, and the Xotic upgrade from 3 year labor / 3 year parts is also $293. For the same money you are gaining the LCD accidental on the Sager with 2 more years parts, but Xotic is only gaining you the LCD accidental. Maybe one of the 2 isnt listing the right price increase maybe? One would think with the two matched up like you had them, the price would be the same.
Edit - I would definitely drop Justin@Xotic an email and see what he says. -
I probably will. it was just a little odd. that much of a price diff on practically the same thing, on the same site... definitely need to ask someone anyway
-
Perhaps it's....oh wait I already tried answering that.
Actually there is a 23$ difference from the get go for the two laptops, as in without configuring them at all. Only differences I can see at that point are that the Compal doesn't have the wireless card, the compal has the 256mb 8600GT and 3 year next day air warranty. The sager comes with the wireless card, the 512mb 8600, and 3year/1year 3day shipping. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I can pretty much guarantee that you do not have the configurations exactly alike if there is a $200 difference. It should be more in the $50 to $60 range, and that is because of the different shipping method between the two warranties...3 day for Sager and Next Business Day for Xoticpc and PowerNotebooks PowerPro J 10:15
Try posting your exact configuration here so we can see what you are doing. -
it probably is different... I'm likely just having a hard time seeing it, not quite used to all of this like some of you are. What the hell, show me what I missed, I know I missed something, just be nice about it, haha you buys can be sharks sometimes.

do tell. -
Its in the warranty. Sagers is $293 to upgrade from a 1 year parts to a 3 year parts and the LCD accidental, Xotic is $293 extra just for the accidental, since you already had the 3 year parts by default. The cost of the 3 year warranty that was already built into the Force price is the difference.
-
You could get a FAR better comp for $3000...
Not that it's a bad comp, but for 3,000 you could get a 17" beast. -
17" is not always a plus
