I was wondering if anyone knows the specific brands that are used in the NP2090. Which drive did everyone pick out for their new notebook?

I'm thinking I should switch to the 160gb from the 100gb even if it's slightly faster.

First decide if you need that much storage. Is this your primary PC or you have a desktop too.

I chose 100gb 7200rpm and I do not plan to use it as storage for my movies and mp3's, have a desktop for that with couple drives. I am using WD Raptor 10000RPM drive on my desktop for my OS, so I couldn't see myself using 5400rpm and I chose 7200rpm drive within my budget.

Same as Vital said, if its gonna be your media centre, then go with storage, but if its for funcunality go for speed. i also would presume that 5400rpm would use less battery...? not much less if at that but im not sure...

I would choose the speed because without alot of movies and that you should be fine with 100gb, and you can upgrade in the future too right? (most of my knowledge is towards the np9260)

    Hope this helped

The 160gb 5400 uses perpendicular recording and is faster than the 60/80/120gb 5400's so the performance difference wont be bad at all. If you want the extra space get the 160gb one.

I wish I had gotten it on mine :).

That's what I was wondering about, also why I asked about brand. I've heard that some 160gb 5400rpm drives are faster than small 7200 rpm drives.

I for one got the 160 gb 5400 rpm drive and am very pleased with it. I was surprised to see that it is a Fujitsu drive.

If we really want to know how each drive performs in our Sager's, we need to know exact models of the drives of all configurations.

To everybody who already has their Sagers please post drive models with specs and where did you order(basically is it Sager or IFL built by PNB and Xotic)

    Thank you.

I have a Sager from PNB with a 160GB 5400RPM drive. I checked on properties and it's a Fujitsu drive. It's quick for my needs and honestly, my initial Sager order traded WSXGA+ for WXGA for a 160GB 7200RPM drive. I'm glad I changed that and changed my 7200RPM for 5400RPM for the higher resolution and maintaining the same price. :)

Hey Syntax can you do a benchmark of your drive with HD Tune utility.

    Thanks

i know this is a vague question but can anyone say that they see a definitive difference in higher battery use and / or faster performance in switching from a 5400 rpm to 7200rpm? I am getting the 80gb HD and am wondering if its worth it to pay 40 $ for that.
