Hi there, a couple years ago I bought a Sager NP2090 from powernotebooks and have had an awesome experience with it. However, today my video card, a Nvidia 8600m GT decided to die. I was wondering what the specs were on it, as I am looking to replace it. I am seeing stuff like MXM II and such. What do I need to look for if I intend to replace it myself? Or should I just contact sager and have them do it? I'm comfortable replacing parts myself and have built a computer already, its just I've never worked on a laptop's video card before.

Cameron,
I'm in just about the same boat you are in, Sager NP2080 bought a couple of years ago and video card just died today. It had the GeForce 8600M 512M. I opened the compartments on the underside to get a look at the card. I figure it would be easy enought to get a new one on eBay and slap it in. I could find the processor, the RAM, the wireless card, and the hard drive but couldn't find the video card. I ended up calling Sager to see if it really was a card and if it was replaceable. They confirmed that it was. They said the cards are becoming difficult to stock and that they only carry the 256M version. The card replacement would cost $250 plus another $80 for labor. I really need to get my laptop up an operating so I took the expensive route and put it in the mail this afternoon. I checked prices on eBay and it looks like you can get a 512 version between $66-84.

This laptop is the compal ifl90 if you look in that section you can find a thread about upgrading it to a ati card as the NV card is one of the defective bumpgate models. I did this on my wife's laptop; it works great now and runs much cooler. As a temporary fix you can take the card out and bake it or heatgun the core to get it working again for a while. I just ordered a 3650 from ebay and it worked fine. Others have put in other cards as well just check the large thread in that section of the forum.
