Ok, so I have a Sager NP2090 and recently (about maybe a week ago, probably less) it has been logging me off if I'm idle for more than 5 minutes. First the screen will go black for 5 seconds or so and then I get logged off. It takes me to the log in/finger swipe screen. However, if I move my mouse while it is in the black screen phase, I can stop it from logging me off. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not completely sure if it's just logging me off or if it's putting itself to sleep.

Anyways, the computer is not too warm. It even does this when I first turn it on. I have checked the power settings and they are normal.

    Any ideas?

    EDIT:

Happens on both battery and AC.

I have turned the password option off.

my first idea is to double check the power settings. it's pretty easy to mix up battery/ac settings.

also check under power options if it requires a password on wake from sleep.

it doesn't sound like heat issues, not because it can happen even when you first turn, but because overheating usually causes a shutdown.

I don't think there is a power option for idle log off. For some troubleshoot, maybe you could try and choose to don't ask for password on system resume.

    Checked and rechecked.

I forgot to say in the OP, it happens regardless of whether I am plugged in or on battery.

    I'll edit the OP.

Yeah, I tried disabling the password. Still does it.

Although, I'm not sure if this is revealing but when it logs me out the text under my username still says "Locked" even though you don't need a password to get in.

man. weird! i would also check the screensaver, anything out of the ordinary there?

you could also change all the power settings to reset things, maybe that would clear things up?

like put everything to 'never' and see what happens.

have you installed/uninstalled anything? could it be looking for a antivirus screensaver that no longer exists or something like that?

^ Yeah that's what I was going to say. Under the screensaver option there's an option to display the welcome screen after you get out of the screensaver.

Although that doesn't actually log you off, just locks it.

I have my screensaver turned off.

I recently turned off my antivirus' automatic update option. But that's it otherewise.

Maybe you want to try a system restore?

I, like the noob that I am, do not have a restore point set. AHHH!

I don't know what happened. But somehow it's been fixed. After 5 days of nothing working, it's been fixed.

Among the things that I did was 1) turn off the "require a password upon wakeup" option. And 2) Turn on the screensaver and then turn it off again.

Both of these confuse me since 1) I removed all passwords on the computer and 2) I've never used a screensaver.

I'm not so much concerned with what I did, but more what happened to cause it.

Anyways, thanks guys. If it weren't for you I wouldn't have thought to access those options and do those things.
