    Hello all,

I've been a lurker here at NotebookReview.com for the last month or so while I decided on a new laptop;with this forum's advice, I ultimately settled on a Sager NP2090 from XoticPC.com. Since it arrived last week, the notebook has been behaving wonderfully: the leap to Vista x64 was easier than I expected and the four gigs of RAM really sped things up a bit. However, I have come to sort of a stumbling block, it seems as though my nVidia 8600 GT is consistently overheating.

As it stands now, my NP2090 idles at about 70 degrees Celsius according to RivaTuner 2.06 (w/o PowerMizer). However, during typical play the GPU tops out at 81 degrees, holds for about 15 minutes and then I start to see the first artifacts. Typically, I play Source based games such as TF2 and HL2. Originally I played these games at full resolution and on medium settings with no AA. I've brought the resolution down to 800x600 and it seems not to make too much of a difference.

    Some stats:

NP 2090 with Windows Vista x64 Home Premium
    Intel T7500 @ 2.2 GHz
    4 Gigs of Ram
    nVidia 8600 GT
ForceWare Version: 156.10 (stock for Sager NP2090s)

As I've written this, my idle has gone up to 75 degrees (w/ a second display attached). Granted I've got all the eye candy on, but seeing as I've seen reports of a much lower idling temperature, I'm wondering if this is indeed a hardware fault. Perhaps the thermal paste needs to be reapplied on the GPU's heatsink?

    Any info would be appreciated.

I would try thermal paste, but my G1s can idle at 70, run up 90 on a gaming session. GPU shutoff is usually ~120.

Mine can get over 70°C when gaming, I would suggest enabling powermizer...you will bring temps down to 60°C when idle, it won't hurt. I assume you're not overclocking.
Maybe you should check the thermal paste in GPU...where did tou buy it from?

I bought the laptop from XoticPC.com, I just mention the paste because that's the only thing I can think of. The errors are definitely becoming more common. It just that it sits at 81 degrees C that bothers me. Seems wicked hot for low settings, and it doesn't seem to get any hotter than that though, like it is the max limit and such.

    contact XoticPC about it.

it might need to have the videocard or heatsink/fan checked out to make sure that its secure.

Yep. Called XoticPC and they put me in contact with Sager's technical support. They set me up with an RMA and emailed me the packaging label. So hopefully it will all work out. =D
