I'm looking to get a new Sager NP2029 with the following specs:
- 15.4" WSXGA+ "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1680x1050)
- ~Intel® T9300 45nm "Penryn" Core™2 Duo 2.5GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
- 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 8600GT DX10
- ~ 4,096MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
- ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW
- ~ 200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
- ~Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Installed (64&32-Bit CD Included) w/ Drivers & Utilities CD's
And I was comparing between XoticPC and Power Notebooks and they have exactly the same price. So I don't know which company to go with...
Also is there a way to get the 2092 configured with the 8800GTX?

While price isn't everything, we both work hard to provide the very best in Customer Service. Just take a look at our respective ratings at http://www.resellerratings.com/store/PowerNotebooks and http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Xotic_PC
However I can tell you that the NP2092 will not support the 8800M GTX. You need a 17" Sager model for that. -
Hmm without doubt both are very reliable stores.
Can the NP2092 I configured run WoW at maximum resolution and settings smoothly? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
WOW is not very graphic intensive and will run smooth on the 2092.

Wow runs smoothly on my 4 year old laptop. I'm sure 2092 will destroy that game at max settings (assuming decent internet connection).
-
I ran WoW on this:

Specs on that thing.
-
How is the build quality of the 2092?
It's Compal not Clevo... so I dunno.
And are there any know widespread issues with the rig? -
-
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Daweism, there is an entire Compal section here at NBR...you can check there but you will find that it is very high quality with very few complaints.
Without knowing what applications you will be using it is very difficult to recommend the Compal JFL92, JHL90 or the Clevo M860TU. Fill us in on what you will be using it for and we will all be glad to give you our humble opinions -

You can count on the fact that the Sager NP8660 will cost several hundred more than the current sale pricing of the NP2092.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The 860TU pricing will likely be in a close price range to the 5793. As Donald has stated there will be a gap in pricing between the 2092 and the 860TU.
-
Is there an updated NP2092 model coming out for Montevina?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Yes there will be right around the release of Montevina.

The new Compal model will be the JHL90 which will replace the Sager NP2092.
It is already being discussed in the Compal manufacturer's section of this forum. -

Yeah, though if you really like the 2092 Id feel safe getting it as the new model seems to have very little improvement outside of the new chips, which for 95% of people buying this laptop (aka not super high end performance) the new chipset may not be important enough to wait and pay for. If you are still looking or not in a hurry then you may want to wait a month or so to see the official specs to decided if the added cost (if any, Id love some pricing speculation as I too am looking at this models in case the 860tu is too much for my needs for the price) before purchasing.

Any way to get a HDMI output on the NP 2092?
-
No. -----------
-
How would it look if I hooked the 2092 to an 27" LCD HDTV and ran dual displays with the VGA?
-
HDMI = DVI - sound
-
The Np 2092 doesn't have a DVI slot...
-
Just a quick comment, I have virtually no complaints about my 2092, which was purchased through Xotic (excellent pre and post sales service btw) with the exception of the keyboard which is pretty cruddy feeling. It has a fair amount of flex, the keys don't sit level and just generally doesn't seem to be up to the fit and finish of the rest of the notebook which is very high. Both my T61 and NP5792 had a much nicer keyboard.
Otherwise, bang for the buck, I'm not sure the 2092 can be beat. -
@Daweism - If your 27" lcd has a vga input then it'd look fine as long as you run it at native resolution. I often used to run my 32" LCD TV over vga and it was fine (I now have a DVI-HDMI adapter).
-
What's a native resolution?
I want to run it at 1920 x 1080... -
-
Well the 27" LCD I have is a HDTV and supports up to 1080i so it should run 1920 x 1080 with VGA with no problems?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Shouldnt be a problem.
I think the max resolution a VGA supports is 2048x1536
-
Cuz right now on my old desktop rig which has a nVidia MX440 64MB card I can't run it higher than 1280x768 on my 27" LCD or else everything becomes to fuzzy. Is that the video card at fault?
Hmm I did some research and the native resolution of my 27" LCD is 1366 x 768. Elaborate please... how would WoW look if I ran it at 1920 x 1080? -
Is the 8600m GT that comes in the NP2092 the DDR3 or DDR2 model?
-
DDR2 I believe. Anyone to get the DDR3 version in the NP2092?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It is DDR2...
Compal does not offer GDDR3 in the JFL92 -
I did some research and the native resolution of my 27" LCD is 1366 x 768. Elaborate please... how would WoW look if I ran it at 1920 x 1080 on the 27" through VGA off the np2092?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
If your TV's native resolution is only 1366x768 it will not support anything higher than that. That is why it is fuzzy when you set the resolution higher, and I think you will also find that it will not show the entire screen substance when you try to run it higher than its native resolution...that is part of the image will exceed your screen and will be cut off.
-
Hmm... I need to get a better monitor and not use a HDTV lol.
-
Turbo memory or no? I've heard both good and bad things about. And it costs next to nothing to add it in...
-
^^ get samsung 256GB SSD.
-
Wut? Gimme some $ then.
-
If your putting in more than 2 gigs of ram then its not necessary.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
What minkang said
However with the introduction of the Montevina platform and Turbo Memory 2.0, along with Vista SP1, you will see significant improvement over the original Turbo Memory. -
Is Turbo Mem 2.0 only going to be available with the new Montevina platform? Doubt that its going to be a significant addition when you have 4 gigs but curious.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
That is my understanding at this time...
Even with 4GB I think Turbo Memory 2.0 will give you your 35 dollar's worth. -
SO if I get the Turbo ram in the 2092 will it be faster? I've heard some not so good things with the turbo ram...
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, I would not get it in the NP2092...that is the original Turbo Memory and as minkang says...as long as you are getting at least 2GB system memory you won't see any real advantage with Turbo Memory.
-
2092 uses Turbo memory 1.0
what Donald said was referring to Turbo memory 2.0 -
Another laptop you may like is the Asus M50SV-A1 or B1. Specs are quiet close, and is purchasable from Xoticpc.com I am unsure about powernotebook though.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
This OP did NOT ask about what other laptop might interest them. The decision has already been made after considerable research...please just let the OP enjoy their Sager NP2090 in peace
-
Something tells me Powernotebooks and XoticPc will be offering Turbo Memory 2 with m860tu.
*cough*talking so good about it and all *cough* *cough*
